My Client in Kings Lynn is seeking a registered veterinary nurse to work in a twilight capacity.
The twilight nurse role is designed to provide broad exposure across all areas of the practice. Individuals in this position are trained to work within wards, theatre, auxiliary services, and front-of-house responsibilities, including reception and dispensary tasks. This ensures a well-rounded skill set while supporting the smooth running of the practice during evening hours.
Within the wards, the twilight nurse is responsible for supporting patient care and maintaining clear communication with both day and night veterinary teams. Duties include monitoring hospitalised patients, assisting with discharges and client communication, administering medications as prescribed, and recognising any changes in patient condition, including pain assessment. The role also involves assisting with procedures such as blood sampling, catheter placement, and blood transfusion monitoring, alongside maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
In auxiliary and theatre settings, the role focuses on preparing and maintaining clinical environments and equipment. The nurse is actively involved in anaesthesia, including monitoring patients, maintaining accurate records, and supporting the veterinary team during procedures and diagnostic imaging. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining aseptic technique and adhering to standard operating procedures at all times.
This is an independent, privately owned veterinary practice operating across two sites, with a strong focus on delivering gold-standard nursing care while ensuring clients feel fully informed and supported. The practice combines advanced technology with continuous training and development to maintain a progressive and high-quality approach. Attention to detail, effective teamwork, and a commitment to excellence underpin its reputation.
The position requires a relevant veterinary nursing qualification, such as a Level 3 diploma, advanced apprenticeship, or a degree in veterinary nursing. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively, with a strong team-focused approach. Resilience and the ability to manage both the emotional and physical demands of the role are essential, alongside good time management and a positive attitude towards supporting colleagues.
The working pattern typically covers weekday evenings, with shifts running either from mid-afternoon to late evening or into midnight, including a scheduled break.
The practice offers a supportive working environment alongside a comprehensive benefits package. Annual leave begins at 5.6 weeks, including bank holidays, and increases with length of service. Additional benefits include a workplace pension, staff uniform, pet care discounts, and various staff incentives. Employees also have access to private healthcare, including mental health support, an employee assistance programme, and additional wellbeing resources, reflecting the practice’s commitment to supporting both the professional and personal wellbeing of its team.
