Veterinary Surgeon – Cardiff
My client is an RCVS-accredited small animal practice with three branches in and around Cardiff. They are passionate about delivering excellent care to patients and clients, and they believe that looking after each other is essential to achieving this.
They are seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to work in a friendly team on a 12-month maternity cover. The role involves working across the main hospital and branch clinics on a shared rota, providing a mix of consultations, surgical procedures, and inpatient care. Overnight, they retain inpatients at the hospital under nursing care to minimise stress and travel for unwell patients, while out-of-hours calls are managed by a local provider.
This is a full-time position, based on a four-day week with a one-in-five Saturday rota, totaling 40 hours per week. There is no requirement for out-of-hours or Bank Holiday work. During your week, you will have a balanced schedule including consulting, operating, and inpatient shifts, with 20-minute consultations as standard and dedicated admin time built into your day. They encourage clinical autonomy, while providing full support whenever it is needed.
Teamwork and wellbeing are central to practice culture. The team includes 20 vets and 19 nurses, with a mix of experience and several certificate holders, ensuring a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared and career development is supported.
Cardiff offers an excellent quality of life, combining the amenities of a vibrant city with easy access to the Brecon Beacons and the stunning South Wales coastline. The city has a range of cultural attractions, events, and excellent dining options, as well as strong transport connections including a local airport, high-speed rail links to London, and the nearby M4 motorway.
They provide a competitive package with a salary of up to £48,000 depending on experience, 6.6 weeks of paid holiday including bank holidays, and a £1,750 annual CPD allowance. Additional benefits include health and wellbeing contributions through Health Shield, RCVS membership and two further professional subscriptions, VDS cover, enhanced family leave pay, discounted veterinary fees, company sick pay, CPD and training support, annual pay reviews, colleague engagement surveys, and clear career progression opportunities.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive, professional team in a beautiful and vibrant location, where you can focus on clinical excellence and enjoy a healthy work-life balance.
