This RCVS-accredited, purpose-built veterinary hospital in West Yorkshire is seeking an experienced surgical veterinary surgeon to join its established and highly skilled team. This modern hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including an on-site CT scanner, and is supported by a team of 18 vets, several of whom hold certificates. The practice manages a diverse and advanced surgical caseload, offering an excellent environment for an experienced surgeon to thrive.
The practice is recruiting a dedicated and compassionate Senior Veterinary Surgeon with a strong surgical focus. The role is available on a permanent basis, with both full-time and part-time working patterns considered, and includes a fixed day off each week with no regular out-of-hours commitments. The position is based primarily at the main veterinary hospital, with one operating day per week at a branch surgery. The successful candidate will work closely alongside the Surgical Director, delivering high-quality surgical and medical care and performing both advanced and routine surgical procedures.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to fully utilise and further develop surgical expertise within a supportive and professional environment. The hospital provides exceptional facilities and equipment, alongside a knowledgeable and experienced clinical team. The position would suit an experienced surgical vet who holds, or is working towards, a postgraduate certificate in surgery or similar qualification, with experience in orthopaedics being particularly desirable.
The Senior Veterinary Surgeon will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of surgical procedures, including routine operations, emergency interventions and advanced procedures such as TPLO and patella luxation surgery, with mentorship available where required. The role includes accepting surgical referrals within the scope of the individual’s expertise, participation in a 1-in-4 weekend rota, and overseeing post-operative recovery and ongoing patient care. Collaboration with veterinary nurses and support staff is essential to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, alongside a commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with advances in veterinary medicine. The role also involves mentoring junior colleagues, including those on the VetGDP programme.
Applicants must be MRCVS registered and have proven experience in veterinary practice. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling complex information to be clearly explained to both pet owners and clinical teams. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail in record keeping and treatment planning, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. A compassionate and professional approach towards animals and their owners is fundamental, making this an ideal opportunity for a motivated individual committed to delivering exceptional standards of care within a dynamic practice environment.
The role offers a competitive salary in the region of £60,000 to £75,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience, certification and Advanced Practitioner status. The benefits package is comprehensive and includes 6.6 weeks of paid holiday inclusive of bank holidays, a generous CPD allowance starting at £1,750 plus five days per year and increasing to £2,500 for Advanced Practitioners, payment of RCVS membership and two additional professional subscriptions, VDS cover, company sick pay and annual pay reviews. Additional benefits include Health Shield contributions towards health and wellbeing treatments, a company car, housing allowance, relocation assistance, paid volunteer time, enhanced family leave policies, discounted veterinary fees, cycle to work scheme, colleague wellbeing initiatives, career progression opportunities and free on-site parking
