Mixed Veterinary Surgeon
A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join this established team in the Scottish borders. This role offers a varied and engaging caseload across small animals 60%, farm animals 30% and equines 10%, ensuring that no two days are the same. The practice actively encourages the development of individual clinical interests and provides support for further specialisation.
The position offers a strong work–life balance, with evening surgeries finishing at 6pm, one in five weekends (with the following Monday off), and one night per week on call, with additional support available when required.
Located in a traditional Border town just 15 miles from the English border in the county of Roxburgshire, the practice benefits from stunning surrounding countryside and excellent opportunities for outdoor pursuits including walking and cycling. The town is also conveniently situated just over an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, Newcastle upon Tyne and Carlisle.
The Practice
They are a long-established, forward-thinking mixed practice serving the rural Scottish Borders. The team takes pride in maintaining high clinical standards while continually modernising and improving facilities. The practice is RCVS Practice Standards Scheme Core accredited and is working towards General Practice status. It has also achieved ISFM Gold Cat Friendly Clinic status and holds a Bronze Investors in the Environment (iiE) Sustainability Award.
As a purpose-built, RCVS-accredited practice the team provides high-quality care to small animals, farm animals and equines. Significant recent investment has enhanced facilities, creating a progressive and well-equipped working environment. Clinical equipment includes multiparameter anaesthetic monitoring, Bair Hugger warming systems, ultrasound, digital radiography and dental radiography.
