Lead Veterinary Surgeon –West Sussex
Permanent, Full Time
My great client in West Sussex is looking for an experienced and confident Veterinary Surgeon to take on the role of Lead Vet, guiding a talented team while shaping the future direction of a warm and community-focused practice. This position carries responsibility for clinical leadership, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, client experience and compliance, while working closely with the Practice Manager to support the commercial growth and performance of the clinic.
If you are a seasoned vet—ideally with five or more years of UK experience—who enjoys leading a small team and thrives in a role with real influence, this is an excellent opportunity. You will step into a key position where coaching, developing and inspiring colleagues is central to your day-to-day work. The current team includes a vet with two years’ experience, a Head Nurse, two RVNs, two SVNs and a Client Care Assistant. Together, you will coordinate clinical workflow, support junior team members and help set the long-term strategy for the branch. Strong organisational skills and a collaborative mindset will be essential to your success.
They are situated close to Crawley town centre in a peaceful residential area. It is a walkable and welcoming community, well known for its friendly atmosphere and access to shops, history and green spaces. Local highlights such as Goffs Park and Tilgate Park offer lakes, nature walks and play areas, ideal for downtime and family visits. With quick connections to Brighton and London, and close proximity to Gatwick Airport, the location suits both commuters and those looking for great work-life balance. The practice itself is well equipped with all the essentials you would expect in a community branch and benefits from being near a 24hr hospital if needed for referrals.
This role is ideal for someone who wants the autonomy to make a meaningful impact on clinical standards, team culture and the future success of a well-loved local practice.
Communication and leadership are central to this position. You will deliver timely updates to the veterinary and nursing teams, ensuring everyone is aware of changes to processes, clinical standards or wider practice developments. Regular and engaging clinical meetings will help maintain alignment within the team. As Lead Vet, you will also mentor and support colleagues, ensuring development plans are in place and that best practice is shared across the practice and the wider Medivet network. Graduates will look to you and the Vet team for guidance, while the Head Nurse will lead coaching within the nursing team.
If you are ready to guide a dedicated, close-knit and passionate group of professionals and want the opportunity to lead a practice where your ideas and leadership will truly make a difference, we would be delighted to hear from you.
