Our client is a busy, well-established multi-branch practice based in Gloucestershire, with the main hospital-type in Cheltenham.

The clinic has steadily grown to become a very busy primary and referral practice whilst maintaining an excellent standard of care and caring attitude towards its patients and their owners. They are looking to continue expanding their referral side over the next few years, with many interesting operations and medical and cardiology work-ups being performed at the main branch. They also have their own dedicated out-of-hours team who provide cover for the region.

The practice equipment includes CT, digital x-ray and dental x-ray, ultrasound, multiple scopes, expansive surgical kit and comprehensive Idexx in-house lab machines, and all of their branch practices run predominantly independently with their own theatres, lab machines and digital x-ray and ultrasound. There is a large, dedicated and very friendly team of vets and nurses who have been providing veterinary care in the area for over 100 years.

The team currently consists of 22 Veterinary Surgeons, 16 Registered Veterinary Nurses, 3 Student Nurses, 2 Animal Care Assistant and 8 Receptionists. They are a team of experienced general practitioners, but also have their own areas of special interest, such as medicine, surgery (both soft tissue and orthopaedic), cardiology, ophthalmology, and dentistry.
The client is now looking to hire a new Head Veterinary Nurse to join the team at their busy, well-established practice in Cheltenham.  Within the role, you will predominantly manage a multi-branch team of 16 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 3 Student Veterinary Nurses with the support of a Nurse Manager and multiple branch Head Nurses. You will support the management team in implementing changes associated with new and current protocols, assist with health and safety policies and the practice standards scheme, whilst also ensuring the smooth day to day running of the practice, including stock management and rotation.

You will also carry out general nursing tasks such as lab work, theatre support, caring for in-patients, conducting consultations, providing clinical coaching, anaesthetics, complicated medical in-patient care and much more.

The weekly rota will consist of working full time hours (37.25 hours/week) in a four-day week pattern with 1:4 Saturday mornings. There will be requirement to cover two bank holidays per year, but no other OOH requirements and no night work. Your time will be predominantly spent at the main branch, with some occasional branch visits.
