Salary: Up to £70,000 DOE
Hours: Full-time or part-time | No OOH | Flexible working considered
My Portsmouth based client is entering an exciting new phase of growth and are looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join a welcoming and experienced team. Whether you're looking to work full-time or part-time, they’re happy to tailor the role around the right person.
The practice was founded with a clear vision: to build a clinic where clinical honesty, personalised care, and team wellbeing come first. That ethos still shapes the daily practice and has helped them to create a supportive and positive environment for clients and colleagues alike.
You’ll be working alongside an experienced vet currently completing her surgery certificate and planning to become a VetGDP Advisor. They also have the support of seasoned locums and a team of dedicated, long-standing nurses who bring over 30 years of combined experience to the clinic. The Head Nurse has been there since 2007 and continues to mentor student nurses with the same passion she had when she first joined. The Practice Manager and client care team help keep the front-of-house running smoothly and make sure every client feels welcome from the moment they walk in.
They are an RCVS-accredited, independently run practice with a fantastic local reputation and a lovely location close to green parks and Portsmouth’s coastline. Inside, the clinic is well-equipped for small animal GP work. Recently upgraded to a brand-new ultrasound machine and a direct plate radiography system, and have introduced a K-laser to support treatment of a wide range of conditions. Full refurbishment is also on the horizon, giving you the opportunity to be part of an evolving practice.
Despite a varied caseload, they maintain a steady pace and structured diary to ensure we finish on time as often as possible. Consultations are usually 15 minutes, but they build in extra time for more complex cases or as new team members settle in. Admin time and lunch breaks are protected, and there’s always someone available for a second opinion.
The role offers full-time hours of 39 hours per week, including a 1 in 3 Saturday morning rota (9am–12pm). They can also discuss part-time options, ideally three days per week with the same Saturday commitment. You’ll receive a day off each week, paid overtime, and genuine work-life balance—with absolutely no out-of-hours.
Looking for a team player with solid GP experience, strong communication skills, and a passion for delivering excellent, compassionate care. Most importantly, someone who shares their values and is ready to grow with them. They welcome applications from vets at all levels of experience.
•    Salary up to £70,000 (depending on experience)
•    28 days holiday, increasing to 33 after two years
•    No out-of-hours or on-call
•    Paid professional fees (RCVS and VDS)
•    Generous CPD allowance and funding towards certificates
•    Life assurance at four times your annual salary
•    Contributory pension scheme
