Emergency Night Vet – Gloucester
Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for emergency and critical care? This hospital in Gloucester, is looking for a motivated Night Vet to join a progressive and friendly out-of-hours team.
Situated on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds, the hospital combines excellent motorway links with an enviable work–life balance. They are a large, RCVS-accredited Small Animal Hospital and Emergency Services Clinic, recently refurbished and equipped with cutting-edge facilities. Alongside the essentials, they have four theatres, CT, laparoscopic kit, rigid and flexible endoscopy, and advanced ultrasound. Supporting both their own patients and those from across the county, the caseload is varied, challenging, and highly rewarding.
In this role, you’ll be supported by a team of dedicated night nurses and a strong group of over 20 day vets, including several certificate holders. You’ll take the clinical lead during nights, so confidence in handling both surgical and medical emergencies is vital, as well as the ability to communicate clearly with clients and work collaboratively with colleagues. The rota is designed to maximise your downtime: 7 nights on followed by 14 nights off (Monday to Sunday), with holidays taken outside of working weeks.
They can offer a competitive salary of up to £72,500 pro rata (dependent on experience and qualifications), plus a comprehensive benefits package. This includes 6.6 weeks’ holiday, £1,750 annual CPD allowance, RCVS fees and two further memberships paid, enhanced parental leave, generous staff discounts, Health Shield support, and company sick pay. You’ll also benefit from annual pay reviews, funded CPD and career progression opportunities, discounts scheme, cycle-to-work options, and a strong focus on wellbeing.
This hospital know the importance of team spirit. Alongside clinical work, they enjoy a variety of regular social events, from summer gatherings and Christmas parties to pancake days with visiting chefs, bowling, darts, and golf trips. For those relocating, they can also offer local accommodation.
