Night Veterinary Surgeon - Brighton
My client located in Brighton is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join a friendly and supportive team at their purpose-built, RCVS-accredited Veterinary Hospital. This role can be offered as either a full-time or part-time position and will focus on contributing to growing the medicine and emergency team, which manages a busy and varied caseload from branches and subscribing practices.
They are seeking a confident, approachable team player with a keen interest in Emergency and Critical Care who thrives in a collaborative environment.
This practice has been providing exceptional veterinary care to the region’s pets for over 45 years. The hospital is complemented by five fully equipped branch practices and provides out-of-hours cover for multiple other practices in the area. The hospital itself features eight consulting rooms, dedicated wards for cats, dogs, exotics, isolation, and day procedures, three theatres with prep areas, a dental suite, a CT scanner, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory supported by a dedicated lab technician. During the day, two hospital vets manage medical inpatients, handing over to the night team, which includes a skilled Night Nurse and an Animal Nursing Assistant. While exotics are cared for by a separate daytime team, night shifts also involve managing exotic inpatients.
The team includes multiple certificate holders and colleagues with expertise across a wide range of clinical areas, including orthopaedics, ophthalmology, advanced imaging, and exotics. They are committed to professional development and offer significant opportunities for learning and growth through both internal and external CPD
This role involves working sole charge with full ward handover to ensure smooth communication, alongside a highly experienced Night Nurse and Animal Nursing Assistant. Shifts run from 7pm to 9am, with support from a fully resourced day team to manage daytime cases and opportunities to pick up additional shifts during holidays.
Full-time night shifts operate on a schedule of four nights on and eight nights off, with a salary ranging from £61 to £65k based on 32.67 hours per week. Part-time positions offer four nights on and twenty nights off, with a salary between £32,500 and £35,850 based on 16.38 hours per week. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy an outstanding role with excellent work-life balance.
Brighton offers a vibrant and diverse lifestyle, combining a welcoming seaside community with cultural and creative opportunities. The South Downs National Park is nearby, providing beautiful landscapes for outdoor activities. Excellent transport links include London within one hour by train and Gatwick Airport nearby, making the location ideal for commuting or travel.
The benefits package includes 6.6 weeks of paid holiday including bank holidays, a £1,750 CPD allowance per year, health and wellbeing contributions through Health Shield, RCVS membership and two additional professional memberships, VDS cover, enhanced family leave pay, discounted veterinary fees, company sick pay, annual pay reviews, career progression opportunities, and a strong focus on employee wellbeing.
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a well-respected practice where you can develop your skills, lead in emergency care, and enjoy a fulfilling role with excellent work-life balance.
