Head Veterinary Surgeon
Up to £85,000 DOE
Relocation Package | Visa Sponsorship | Flexible Hours
Are you ready to take the next step in your veterinary career? I’m looking for a Head Veterinary Surgeon to lead my clients passionate team in Scunthorpe. This is a fantastic opportunity to combine hands-on clinical work with leadership in a practice where your expertise will be valued, your ideas welcomed, and your career development fully supported.
About the Role
This role is flexible, with both full-time and part-time hours available. Saturdays are shared fairly across the team, and there’s no on-call, no out-of-hours, and no Sunday work – giving you the balance you need outside of practice life. You’ll enjoy a varied mix of clinical work, decision-making and mentoring, helping set the standard for patient care while supporting colleagues as the practice continues to grow. Confidence with routine medical and surgical cases is important, while an interest in surgery would be an advantage but is by no means essential.
About the Team
You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll be supported by a close-knit group including another vet currently studying for a surgery certificate, three RVNs, a student nurse, a veterinary care assistant, two client care advisors, and a dedicated practice manager. It’s a collaborative, committed team who share the same goal: delivering excellent care for patients and clients while supporting one another.
Practice & Location
This modern, purpose-built practice is fully air-conditioned and equipped to the highest standards, with state-of-the-art facilities designed to make clinical work efficient and enjoyable. They have great visibility and a strong, growing client base. With excellent bus links just a short walk away and the train station nearby.
Scunthorpe offers the best of culture, countryside, and coast. Known for its industrial heritage, the town now also boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, with attractions like the Bath Halls, Plowright Theatre, and 20-21 Visual Arts Centre. If you prefer the outdoors, Normanby Hall Country Park is close by with its gardens and woodland, and the seaside at Cleethorpes is only a short drive away. With no out-of-hours work, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it all.
Career Development
Your professional growth matters to this company and they offer a generous CPD allowance and actively encourage postgraduate qualifications, including fully funded certificates. As Head Vet, you’ll also have the chance to influence the development of the practice, set protocols, and play a key role in mentoring the wider team.
Rewards & Benefits
Alongside a competitive salary of up to £85,000 DOE you’ll enjoy a flexible working pattern that suits your lifestyle. They cover your RCVS, VDS and BVA memberships, provide private healthcare and a contributory pension, and support relocation from within the UK or overseas with visa sponsorship available. You’ll also benefit from exclusive colleague discounts, plus clear career progression opportunities across our national network.
You’ll enjoy the independence to lead as though it were your own practice, but with the stability and resources of a trusted veterinary team behind you. They pride themselves on creating a supportive, modern workplace where you can thrive both as a clinician and as a leader.
If you’re looking for a leadership role that blends clinical excellence with genuine influence – all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance – we’d love to hear from you.
