OOH’s veterinary surgeon, 7/14 fixed contract till October 26
Are you a confident Veterinary Surgeon who thrives in emergency and critical care?
My client are seeking an experienced and motivated Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a dedicated emergency team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, highly rewarding environment where your expertise genuinely makes a difference every shift. If you enjoy the challenges of ECC work and are passionate about delivering exceptional care when it matters most, we would love to hear from you.
This position offers the chance to work with a varied and stimulating emergency caseload that supports continual learning and professional development. You will be based in a purpose-built, well-equipped hospital with access to the latest diagnostic and surgical tools, while being supported by a collaborative and welcoming team culture built on open communication and mutual respect. The experienced ECC team works closely together, and the structured rota provides generous time off to support wellbeing, work–life balance, and long-term career satisfaction.
This is a high-quality primary care and mid-tier referral practice with eight clinics across South and West Yorkshire, including a 24/7 RCVS-accredited Tier 3 Hospital. They deliver their own on-site emergency care through a dedicated night team. They offer a full range of services including primary and preventative care, routine and non-routine surgery, dentistry and diagnostic imaging such as X-ray and ultrasound, as well as advanced procedures including laparoscopy, endoscopy, orthopaedics, echocardiography, and in-house CT, alongside comprehensive rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and laser therapy. The teams are made up of highly skilled vets, nurses, and front-of-house colleagues, with many vets working towards certificates in surgery, imaging, dermatology, cardiology, and medicine. Collaboration, clinical discussion, and social connection are actively encouraged across all sites.
They are looking for a confident Veterinary Surgeon who is comfortable working sole charge overnight and performing emergency surgeries with confidence and care. You will be skilled in stabilising critically ill or injured patients, making strong clinical decisions, and interpreting diagnostics accurately. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be supporting worried owners by clearly explaining diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment options. You will be calm under pressure, adaptable in complex situations, and a collaborative team player who thrives in a fast-paced ECC setting.
In return, they offer an excellent benefits package including five weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays and Birthday Leave, RCVS and VDS fees paid, a CPD allowance with four CPD days per year, and access to extensive free online CPD. Additional benefits include career progression opportunities, staff discount schemes, life assurance, enhanced sickness pay, enhanced equal family leave, and an electric car salary sacrifice scheme. Wellbeing offering includes an Employee Assistance Programme, eyecare vouchers, free annual flu jabs, and a cycle to work scheme.
