Lead Veterinarian –Brand New hospital – Melton District, Leicestershire
My clients are looking for an accomplished and inspiring Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join their brand new hospital opening next spring. You’ll work alongside a Clinical Director to uphold clinical excellence, nurture team development, and shape the continued success of this thriving small animal practice.
This is an exceptional opportunity to take a leading role in an exciting new chapter, as they prepare to move into a new purpose-built, state-of-the-art hospital. You’ll have the rare chance to help design systems, influence culture, and establish a truly progressive veterinary environment from the very beginning.
As Lead Vet, you’ll step into a modern, well-equipped hospital supported by an experienced and stable clinical team. You’ll provide strong clinical and operational leadership, make key decisions that elevate patient care, and foster a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement. The role offers a diverse caseload, from routine procedures to complex medical and surgical cases, ensuring you can continue to develop your clinical expertise while leading by example.
You’ll also have access to leadership training, a generous CPD allowance, and the freedom to pursue your own areas of interest. Their exceptional nursing and administrative teams — covering HR, finance, and health and safety — ensure that you can focus on what truly matters: outstanding clinical care and team leadership.
In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the hospital’s day-to-day caseload and operations, support the smooth transition into the new premises, mentor colleagues (including graduates), and contribute strategically as part of the senior leadership team. You’ll also act as a key representative of values and clinical standards
To meet the requirements of our PSS Hospital status, applicants must hold a postgraduate certificate, ideally with a focus on internal medicine or imaging. Previous leadership experience is essential, and they actively support further qualification — six of the clinicians already hold advanced certificates, including Advanced Practitioners in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.
They understand that work-life balance is crucial. A four-day week includes protected admin time, and they accommodate important personal commitments and family events wherever possible. There is no on-call requirement, and weekend and bank holiday shifts are shared evenly across the team. Hours: 4-day week, 8am–6pm or 8.30am–6.30pm, with a 1-in-5 weekend rota and protected leadership time
Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
They are looking for a confident, compassionate individual who leads with integrity and empathy. You’ll be skilled in clinical decision-making, adept at interpreting diagnostics, and motivated to maintain the highest standards of patient care and client service. Collaboration is key — you’ll work closely with the Practice Manager to ensure smooth operations, support team wellbeing, and uphold our culture of professionalism and kindness.
In return, they offer a generous rewards package that includes 5 weeks’ annual leave plus bank holidays and an additional day for your birthday, relocation support, RCVS and VDS fees paid, a pension scheme with employer contributions, staff discounts, life assurance, and access to an electric car salary sacrifice scheme. You’ll also benefit from enhanced family leave and extensive internal and externally funded CPD opportunities.
