Are you an established Head Registered Veterinary Nurse looking for a fresh challenge, or an experienced RVN ready to take the next step into a leadership role? This could be an excellent opportunity to progress your career within a supportive and forward-thinking practice.
This is a friendly, progressive small animal practice based in North West London, who are looking to welcome a motivated Head RVN, or an RVN with the ambition to step into a Head Nurse position, as the team continues to grow. The practice is proud of its high clinical standards, strong team ethos and genuinely collaborative working environment. This role would suit someone who enjoys leading from the front, running nurse clinics, supporting and coaching student nurses, and remaining hands-on with clinical work.
The practice has seen significant growth over the last three years. The practice is owned by two partners who together bring more than three decades of experience. Clinical leadership is provided by the Head Vet, who is currently undertaking a certificate in dermatology. The wider team includes 3.5 vets, one RVN, two student veterinary nurses, one veterinary care assistant and a highly experienced practice manager. The practice is further supported by visiting peripatetic orthopaedic surgeons and an ultrasonographer, allowing for a varied and interesting caseload.
The surgery is purpose built and well equipped, with a full in-house laboratory, ultrasound, digital X-ray and separate, species-specific kennel areas.
The role is full time at 40 hours per week and includes working one Saturday in three, with time off in lieu. There are no out-of-hours requirements, allowing for a healthy work–life balance, which is a key priority for the practice. They are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a lead-by-example approach. Previous experience as a clinical coach would be beneficial, although full support and training can be provided for those keen to develop in this area. You will work closely with Head Vet and our long-standing Practice Manager. Together, they are committed to creating a positive, supportive and happy workplace where people feel valued and empowered to deliver outstanding care.
The position offers a varied and rewarding workload. You will be responsible for clinical coaching and supporting student veterinary nurses, running a range of nurse clinics including obesity, diabetic and behavioural consultations, and carrying out Schedule 3 procedures such as dental scale and polish. You will also be involved in routine nursing duties, including second vaccinations and post-operative checks, and will play an important role in the ongoing development of both the nursing team and the practice as a whole.
In return for your dedication, the practice offers a competitive salary of up to £40,000 pro rata, a supportive and friendly working environment and a comprehensive benefits package. This includes a £1,000 annual bonus for becoming a clinical coach, a flexible rota, birthday leave, regular lunch and learn sessions, access to two mental health first aiders, and a personal CPD allowance of up to £500 per year with two paid days to complete CPD. All CPD is fully supported and encouraged. There is no out-of-hours work, a one-in-three Saturday rota, no Sunday working,.
The practice is also ideally located for both drivers and those using public transport, with easy access to major road networks and nearby train and underground stations.
