An independent veterinary practice with over 100 years of history is looking for an experienced mixed animal veterinary surgeon to join their fantastic team. They offer a friendly and supportive work environment, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality, modern medicine and surgery. Based in the heart of North East England, ideally located with easy access to transport links, city life, beautiful countryside, and the coast.
The caseload is approximately 85% small animals, 10% equine, and 5% farm work, though a small animal-only role is also available. On-call duties include one night per week, always with support from another vet. You’ll be on call for one full weekend in every six, with no night on call the following week and either the Friday or Monday off to give you a long weekend. Additionally, there’s a Saturday morning rota of one in three, with one of those forming part of the full weekend on call. Bank holiday cover is shared equally among the team.
After working a weeknight on call (Monday to Thursday), you’ll have the following afternoon off. You’ll enjoy a minimum of six weeks of paid annual leave, with your birthday also given off once you’ve completed a successful six-month probation. They offer a profit-sharing scheme, with a 12-month review leading to a salary increase, and annual salary reviews thereafter.
There is no sole charge work on call. They cover RCVS and VDS membership fees and provide a generous CPD allowance, including regular in-house sessions. You’ll also benefit from a workplace pension scheme, BUPA healthcare cover, and access to accommodation and a company car (note that the starting salary is adjusted if either is provided). Staff receive discounted treatments for their pets following successful completion of probation, and full sickness pay is offered after 12 months of employment. For eligible candidates, visa sponsorship is available under the lower salary threshold.
The role requires the ability to drive a manual vehicle in the UK.
They are looking for someone enthusiastic and ready to grow in a welcoming, experienced, and passionate environment.
