Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon
My client is excited to offer an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join their dedicated and friendly team at a purpose-built, RCVS Advanced Accredited Small Animal Referral Hospital
This role is perfect for a confident vet with a genuine passion for Emergency and Critical Care who thrives in a collaborative and supportive environment. You’ll be working in a state-of-the-art facility alongside a highly skilled team of professionals who share your drive for clinical excellence and compassionate patient care.
They understand that flexibility is key when it comes to out-of-hours work, which is why they are happy to tailor your rota to fit your lifestyle. Example patterns include four nights on followed by eight off, five on followed by ten off, or seven on followed by fourteen off — but they are open to designing a schedule that works best for you and the hospital team.
Your role will focus on managing emergency and urgent cases, providing overnight care for inpatients, and ensuring that every patient receives the highest standard of clinical care during the night. You’ll encounter a diverse and fascinating caseload, working closely with a team of experienced night RVNs and benefiting from the full support of the day referral clinicians.
The hospital is home to a stable team of more than forty veterinary professionals, including Advanced Practitioners and certificate holders across multiple disciplines such as Orthopaedics, Medicine, ECC, Surgery, Imaging, and Exotics. You’ll have access to an impressive range of cutting-edge equipment, including CT, ultrasound, an endoscopy suite, operating loupes, a slit lamp, CryoPen, and a fully equipped ICU. The hospital operates 24/7, providing continuous care with the support of dedicated night RVNs and auxiliary staff.
They foster a culture built on mutual respect, teamwork, and professional growth. Whether you want to develop your skills within Emergency and Critical Care or pursue a certificate in a specialist area, they can support your professional ambitions through tailored CPD and mentoring opportunities.
This position offers a competitive salary of up to £80,000 per annum (FTE), depending on experience and skillset, along with a rota that allows extended periods away from work so you can truly enjoy life outside of practice. Above all, you’ll be joining a team that values and recognises the essential role night vets play in maintaining the highest standards of care for patients.
