Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon –Carlisle, Cumbria
My Client is based in the historic city of Carlisle is seeking an enthusiastic and caring Veterinary Surgeon to join a supportive team. They offer a full-time position, although part-time applicants will also be considered, in their 100% small animal, single-site practice.
The practice is committed to maintaining a broad range of medical and surgical skills in primary care, providing excellent care to patients and clients. They run in-house healthcare plans offering both routine preventative care and non-routine treatment for accidents and illnesses. You will be joining a clinical team that values knowledge sharing while supporting individual interests and professional development. The diagnostic facilities include digital X-ray (standard and dental), ultrasound, video-endoscopy, and an in-house laboratory with biochemistry and haematology capabilities, allowing you to fully investigate cases and guide owners through treatment options.
They take pride in the positive experiences of those who work with them. Recent locum vets have praised a supportive team, the care they provide to clients, the cat-friendly environment, skilled nursing and reception staff, and the professional yet collaborative approach to discussing cases.
They are looking for a compassionate and communicative veterinarian with at least initial practice experience, who is keen to build long-term relationships with clients and their pets. You should be a confident team player, able to make independent decisions when required, and willing to contribute to a collaborative, knowledge-sharing environment.
The vets are supported by five highly skilled RVNs, animal care assistants, student nurses, and front-of-house colleagues. They offer 15-minute appointments, and the practice is both RCVS-accredited and Gold Compassionate Understood accredited, with Gold Standard Cat Friendly Clinic status. The out-of-hours rota is one in four, providing a healthy work-life balance with plenty of time to enjoy the nearby Lake District and Scottish Borders. Any out-of-hours work is financially remunerated, and they maintain a consistent, flexible rota with minimal weekend work.
They provide a generous CPD budget and support for further study, including certificate-level training. Salary ranges from £40,000 to £60,000 FTE, depending on experience and hours, including out-of-hours work. Additional benefits include 6.6 weeks of annual leave including bank holidays, a £1,750 CPD allowance, Health Shield contributions for health and wellbeing treatments, coverage of RCVS membership and other professional subscriptions, VDS cover, enhanced parental leave, discounted veterinary fees, employee perks, company sick pay, annual pay reviews, pension contributions, and career progression opportunities.
