A rewarding opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in Emergency and Critical Care who prefers to work daytime hours. This position centres on overseeing inpatient care and managing emergency cases presenting through the A&E service at this hospital in West Cheshire
The role offers a diverse and engaging caseload with a particular emphasis on medicine, alongside the opportunity to undertake both emergency procedures and urgent surgical cases. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining excellent continuity of care for hospitalised patients while confidently assessing and treating same-day emergency presentations. The primary focus is to meet the clinical needs of inpatients while delivering high-quality, responsive care to emergencies throughout the day.
The site is a purpose-built 24/7 veterinary hospital created to deliver outstanding first opinion, referral, and out-of-hours services. The modern facility has been carefully designed to support both patients and colleagues. It includes several consultation rooms, a dedicated end-of-life suite, operating theatres, separate dog and cat wards, isolation facilities, a fully equipped dental suite, advanced diagnostic areas, and digital X-ray. In keeping with the high standards, the hospital also features spacious and contemporary staff areas, fostering a supportive and comfortable working environment.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced and motivated clinician who is confident managing complex medical cases and has some surgical capability. They will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative setting and communicate with empathy and professionalism, particularly in high-pressure situations. A certificate in Emergency and Critical Care would be advantageous, though it is not essential.
This role is for 39 hours per week. Weekends are worked on a rota of 1:3
The benefits package is comprehensive and designed to support long-term career development and wellbeing. It includes six weeks of annual leave inclusive of bank holidays, funded CPD, visa sponsorship where required, private healthcare, enhanced maternity and paternity provisions, and a contributory pension scheme. Professional fees for RCVS and VDS are covered, and colleagues gain access to counselling services encompassing mental health, financial, and life support after 12 months of service. Additional perks include cycle-to-work and electric car schemes, retail discounts, sickness benefits following a qualifying period, and a refer-a-friend bonus scheme.
