I’m working with a client in Telford who is seeking an experienced and motivated Veterinary Surgeon to join its Telford clinic. This practice prides itself on fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture where every individual’s contribution is valued. Rather than operating within a traditional hierarchical structure, they encourage collaboration across all levels of the team, creating an environment in which staff work together to achieve the shared goal of delivering excellent clinical care.
Unlike many practices whose primary focus is profit, they place its mission at the centre of everything it does. They aim to generate sufficient income to remain sustainable while prioritising accessible, high-quality veterinary care for pets and their owners.
The organisation’s vision is simple but powerful: no pet should be left untreated or face euthanasia when a viable treatment option exists. They believe that pet ownership should be accessible to everyone and recognises that many individuals, including those earning the Real Living Wage, may struggle to afford veterinary care when their pets become ill. To help address this, the organisation offers free consultations and transparent pricing, allowing veterinary professionals and nurses to remove barriers that may otherwise prevent pets from receiving the treatment they need.
The role is based on a 38-hour working week, typically across four days, providing a good work-life balance. The successful candidate will also take part in a Saturday rota of two in nine weekends, currently based at the Shrewsbury hospital site, along with a share of bank holiday coverage.
They offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both professional development and personal wellbeing. Employees receive six weeks of annual leave including bank holidays, with funded UK and international continuing professional development opportunities available up to certificate level. After the qualifying period, staff gain access to private healthcare, a 52-week sickness benefit scheme and a free employee assistance programme.
Further benefits include an enhanced maternity and paternity package, a contributory pension scheme, and payment of RCVS and VDS professional fees. Employees are also able to access counselling services covering mental health, financial advice and life support after 12 months of service. Additional lifestyle benefits include a Cycle to Work scheme, an electric car scheme, and access to retail discounts
