A rare opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in exotic animals to join this wonderful practice in the West Midlands. The role involves working within a large and supportive clinical team of 16 veterinary surgeons, including colleagues who share an interest in exotics. This environment encourages regular collaboration and case discussion.
The practice operates as a 24-hour emergency care hospital, allowing for a high standard of patient care and continuity. It is equipped with an advanced in-house laboratory offering a wide range of diagnostic capabilities. Facilities support procedures ranging from routine surgeries to more complex orthopaedic operations. The practice also manages a growing and diverse exotics caseload, including reptiles, birds, and small mammals, with dedicated equipment and hospitalisation facilities. Approximately half of the role currently involves exotics work, with opportunities to expand this further.
This is well established and highly regarded team, consisting of 16 vets, 30 nurses, and 10 administrative staff. Leadership includes a Clinical Director, two Head Vets, a Clinical Nursing Manager, and a Practice Manager. There is a strong focus on professional development, with several team members currently working towards advanced certificates in areas such as surgery, internal medicine, and exotics.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of clinical care and demonstrate excellent communication skills to support consistent clinical protocols. Applicants should either hold, be working towards, or have significant experience relevant to an exotics certificate within small animal practice.
The role offers a comprehensive benefits package, including generous annual leave with additional birthday leave, professional fees covered, a pension scheme with employer contributions, life assurance, and access to an electric car salary sacrifice scheme. Enhanced family leave policies are provided, alongside extensive opportunities for both internal and externally funded continuing professional development.
