My client is seeking a well-rounded and experienced GP veterinary surgeon who thrives in a busy hospital environment and is keen to be part of the largest emergency and critical care provider in London. An interest in diagnostic imaging, or holding a relevant certificate, would be highly advantageous for this role.
This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinary surgeon looking to step into a full-time GP position in East London. The team is looking for a confident clinician who can immediately manage routine surgical procedures, including bitch spays and dentistry, and who is comfortable handling emergency cases. With a consistently high diagnostic imaging caseload, the role is particularly well suited to a GP vet with a passion for imaging, whether they are looking to utilise existing expertise or further develop this area of interest.
This hospital delivers high-quality first opinion, emergency, critical care and referral services to its clients, as well as supporting a local network of 20 branches. The hospital operates to the highest clinical standards and benefits from exceptional on-site diagnostic and clinical support. Facilities include a CT scanner, a commercial laboratory, a strong medical team and experienced surgeons who routinely perform advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue and minimally invasive procedures.
The successful candidate will work as part of a large, multidisciplinary team comprising approximately 25 veterinary surgeons, 27 registered veterinary nurses, 14 student veterinary nurses, 7 veterinary care assistants and a dedicated front-of-house team, all of whom play a vital role in delivering excellent patient and client care. Full support is provided by a well-established management structure, including senior RVNs, two deputy head nurses, a head nurse, a head vet and a hospital manager.
The rota operates on a six-week rotational basis, averaging 40 hours per week. This includes participation in a 1-in-3 Saturday and 1-in-6 Sunday weekend rota, allowing exposure to all areas of the hospital including consulting, surgery, wards and ECC. The role includes working up to two bank holidays per year and participation in a last-resort on-call rota.
They are ideally located on the edge of urban Essex, offering easy access to both city life and the countryside. Transport links into central London are excellent, with a Central Line tube station just a short walk from the hospital. There is no on-site parking available, and public transport is strongly recommended.
The salary for this full-time position ranges from £45,000 to £73,000, depending on experience, with clear scope for progression within the role. The benefits package includes 6.6 weeks of annual leave inclusive of bank holidays, private medical insurance with BUPA, a CPD allowance of up to £2,000 per year plus up to five paid CPD days, and relocation assistance where applicable.
