Step into a role where your clinical leadership truly makes a difference.
My client in Wiltshire is seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Veterinary Surgeon who can inspire a close-knit team, uphold exceptional clinical standards and ensure clients receive outstanding care. This is a role for someone who enjoys being fully involved in day-to-day practice life while setting a strong example in both medical and surgical excellence.
The practice itself is a warm, long-established clinic with a loyal following and a varied caseload that keeps each day engaging. You’ll be supported by other surrounding branches, including access to referral services, advanced imaging and ECC colleagues. The practice is equipped with the modern facilities you’d expect from a progressive GP-led site, such as digital radiography, ultrasound, dental equipment and an in-house laboratory. You’ll also have the freedom to develop services and champion the highest standards of care.
In this position, you will take responsibility for directing clinical work, shaping the culture of the practice and ensuring that high standards are consistently met. You’ll guide and support the nursing team, contribute to the training of students, and play an active role in clinical governance. Building strong relationships with clients will be central to your work, as will communicating with clarity and confidence while making sound, evidence-based decisions. You will work closely with the Head Nurse to maintain continuity of care, oversee workflow and support rota planning, while also contributing to audits, protocols and wider quality improvements across the region.
They are looking for an MRCVS-qualified vet with solid small-animal experience and a genuine enthusiasm for leading others. You should feel comfortable with both routine procedures and more complex cases, with the reassurance of referral support when needed. A positive and collaborative approach to teamwork is essential, and additional qualifications—whether completed or in progress—are welcomed and fully supported.
The working pattern can be tailored to suit you, typically over three to four days, with participation in a one-in-three Saturday morning rota. There are no bank holidays or on-call requirements. And they are happy to discuss flexible arrangements and encourage you to share a schedule which best supports your work–life balance.
