Steph Ward

Recruitment Consultant Phone: 01422 433900 Email: [email protected]

I joined Bright Leaf Recruitment in March 2015 and looked after the Locum bookings for the first 2 years before moving over to permanent recruitment in April 2017. I still look after locum bookings but focus most of my time on permanent placements now. I thoroughly enjoy speaking with candidates and clients and helping them to find their ideal match in the veterinary industry.

Outside of work my 2 young daughters and husband keep me busy and when we’re not running the girls to swimming lessons or gymnastic clubs we enjoy family days out and weekends away.

Myself and my husband also like to get involved in charity events for our local Hospice and as the girls get older they also want to get more involved in events such as the annual Colour Run and Midnight Walk.

I currently work part time (Mon-Fri 9-1pm) whilst my daughters are at school, however as they get older and more independent, I hope to increase my working hours as it’s such a rewarding job and a fantastic place to work.

All Steph's jobs...

Our client based in South London, within the M25, are in need of an experienced, capable and confident GP Veterinary Surgeon to join their fantastic team of hospital clinicians.

If you want to work in a dynamic environment in which no two days are the same, this could be the ideal place for you. All the vets thrive on the diverse caseload and welcome the fact that they refer very few cases. They particularly value the support colleagues provide, but also prefer to manage their own cases, in the way they see fit.

The successful candidate will have a number of years working in UK practice behind them, and will be comfortable working in a busy and diverse environment.
You will work alongside a number of Certificate holders and will have plenty of opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge – both formally through CPD and informally through case collaboration.

The team of vets work a 40 hour week across 4 days, inclusive of 1:4 weekends and they provide second on call cover for occasional nights. They are supported by a large team of qualified and student nurses, as well as Clinical Support Services personnel.

The practice has its own separate cat, dog and exotics wards, each encompassing their own operating theatres, as well as dedicated dental suites, ultrasound facilities, endoscopy and of course x-ray. There is also an extensive lab, staffed by bio-medical professionals experienced in supporting the vet team.

The ideal candidate will have a medical bias but not be afraid of surgery, and you will be particularly interested in diagnostic imaging and medical work-ups. Remaining calm in the face of emergencies and articulate in the face of complex cases, will be important skills, along with the ability to work in harmony with a large team. You will also be happy to nurture less experienced colleagues and will welcome their need for support and oversight.

In addition to a salary dependent upon experience you can also enjoy the following benefits (subject to pro rata);
• 5 weeks paid holiday not including bank holidays
• 5 days paid CPD leave
• 1250 CPD Allowance per annum
• Private Medical Insurance
• VDS Membership paid
• BVA Membership paid
