Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon Vacancy, Independent 10 Vet practice, Lancashire

Our client based in Lancashire have a vacancy for a vet with a minimum of 12 months experience to join their team. Successful candidates will be comfortable handling their own routine surgical and medical caseloads. With such a large team, there are always opportunities for development and progression and certificates will be supported.

  • Our client operates across 3 sites in the area, but candidates only ever work in 2 sites ensuring continuity.

Weekend on call is 1 weekend in followed by 6 weekends off. There is also one evening every 2 weeks on call. A full 24 hours off following an on call shift.

Our client is a busy small animal only, multibranch practice in the heart of Lancashire. They are looking for a full time small animal vet to join their team. The group has 16 branches which are either consulting only or have operating facilities. They have a large Vet team with a mixture of new graduates and experienced clinicians. They actively encourage certificate study and currently have certificate holders in Surgery, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine and Dermatology. The practice has an in-house CT, ultrasound, ECG, endoscopy and extensive in-house laboratory. All surgical branches have access to Idexx machines. This is a full time role, initially based at any of the branches on a rota basis, with allocated surgical time at either one of the surgical branches or the main hospital. The working week is 5 days, and the day is generally 09:30-18:00. The OOH's rota is one week night 1 in 12 and weekends are 1 in 4. For the right candidate, who can mentor, the group can offer a second on call rota which is 1 in 4 day time weekend working. If you are on the first call weekend rota you would receive time off in lieu the week before and after. An interest in consulting and high levels of client care are a must. Our client has a great opportunity for an experienced vet to join their friendly 12 Vet team close to Southport in the North West of the UK. This is a busy group of 3 practices with a large, supportive and experienced team who all work closely together. A number of the Vet team hold additional qualifications including certificates in Medicine and Surgery and as such advanced soft tissue, ophthalmic and orthopaedic procedures are all performed in-house. Advanced ultrasonography is provided by visting specialists. The practice is well equipped with the usual tools such as a digital X-ray, in house laboratory, blood machines, ECG, ultrasound scanner, endoscope and the team offer 15 mins consults as standard. The role will involve working within this small animal team performing routine consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures. A busy surgical caseload gives the opportunity to gain experience in more complex surgical procedures if desired. Due to this excellent support network the team can accommodate full or part time applicants and can offer various shift patterns. The current full time vets tend to work 3x 9 hour days and 1x 6 hour day. They also have part time vets working one or 2 days per week. The rota involves 1 in 4 weekends on duty but with time off in lieu. Out of Hours is outsourced to Vets Now from 7pm, 7 days a week. A working weekend will involve working a morning of consults on both Saturday and Sunday plus provided cover until 7pm on just one of those weekend days. There is a bonus paid for cases seen between 1pm-7pm on a Saturday or Sunday. The successful candidate will ideally have previous small animal experience and have a professional approach to providing excellent clinical service at all times. You must possess good communication and interpersonal skills and be self motivated to work independently or as part of a team. You will have the support of your colleagues but the clinical freedom to work up your own cases. Developing areas of special interest are encouraged with a generous CPD allowance. On offer if a salary of between 40k-60k depending upon experience. plus a generous benefits package including CPD allowance, RCVS fees, VDS membership, BVA membership and Private Health Care. Holiday allowance is 33 days per year including Bank Holidays, a day off for your birthday and length of service days (pro rata for part time). Our client is looking for an Experienced Full Time Clinical Director to join them in Rochdale. This is a busy first opinion practice at the foot of the Pennines. There are ideally placed to escape it all to the countryside, but if you fancy a trip into Manchester or Leeds, they are close by. Our client based in rural Lancashire are looking for full or part time Small Animal Vets to work any number of flexible hours over the summer and ongoing. They have permanent positions which can support newly graduated vets upwards, but will look at any cover, consult only, part time or summer jobs for New graduates. This first opinion mixed practice runs its 3 small animal surgeries at separate locations to its farm and equine department. The practice has 3 Clinical Directors across the group and employs around 80 staff in total. You will enjoy the support of an experienced team of 13 dedicated small animal vets, 10 qualified nurses, 3 trainee nurses, 2 nursing assistants and 13 receptionists. The practice facilities allow for good case work up and include a state-of-the-art DR digital x-ray machine with cloud-based image storage, ECG, flexible endoscope, ultrasound scanner, tonometer, infusion pumps, and a well-equipped lab including an electrolyte analyser. The team offer 15 minute appointments. The main site of the 3 SA surgeries has undergone extensive refurbishments and has a team of RVN’s working 24/7 which is extremely beneficial to the Vets who do on-call and greatly enhances in-patient care. The loyal clients really appreciate this in-house out of hours service, and the team understand how this can impact on Vets and as such ensure on call is kept to a minimum and Vets have the following 24 hours off after being on call. There is accommodation on site for Vets to use if preferred. For permanent roles the weekend OOH rota is approximately 1.5 in 8 with generous time off in-lieu given for being on call; if you are on-call Friday / work Saturday morning only / and on call Sunday then you have the Monday and Tuesday off in-lieu. If you are on-call on a Saturday then you will have a Friday off in-lieu. And then followed by 6 weekends off. But any cover will be welcomed and flexibility given In addition, you would be on-call approximately one night every other week with the following day off. The rota is on a continuous 8-week cycle allowing you to plan your life ahead. The team have an OOH telephone answering service so the Vets will not be taking calls directly. Recent graduates will be given Veterinary back-up OOH. There is CCTV so you can remotely keep an eye on in-patients. Full time Vets involved in the out of hour’s service do work a variation of 3, 4, and 5-day weeks throughout the 8-week rolling rota. If you are a full-time Vet doing on call you will only have two 5-day weeks in every 8 weeks. However, many of the Vets choose to have extra days off. The team are very open to suggestion and happy to discuss what hours may suit you. This is a well-established practice giving great job security, a good work life balance and up to 40 days holiday a year, with a holiday buy back scheme too for those who love to travel. You would enjoy excellent support and back up from the the well-established clinical and support teams, with weekly team meetings, so all staff can contribute to the success of the practice and ensure everyone is listened to. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience. To give you an idea of the current pay scales; a one-year qualified Vet will earn 36,700 and a Vet with 6 years experience will earn around 51k. In addition you will receive a generous CPD allowance of 1,750 per annum and certificates will be encouraged with a higher CPD budget given. The team can also offer a new graduate development programme and are an RCVS Accredited and a Nurse training centre. They also have several apartments available, all within walking distance of the surgeries, for those looking to move to the area.
