Experienced Farm Vet

Our client has a two-site, predominantly first opinion, mixed veterinary group, based in the beautiful location of South Cumbria covering the Lake District, Lune Valley & Yorkshire Dales.

Due to the practices continued success, they now have the rare opportunity to welcome a Farm Vet to join their our great team. The client is keen to support your professional interests and goals. This role really would suit an experienced, dynamic and motivated farm vet looking for the next step in their career. This vacancy would be a fantastic match for a Farm vet looking to work in an enthusiastic, knowledgeable team, in a well-equipped site offering professional development, with a varied caseload, working with great local clients, all whilst allowing time for a great work life balance.

The practice are a long established group that have separate farm and small animal teams. They also have a complete range of facilities and equipment such as; bull testing kit, interherd, total vet, vet impress, in house mastitis lab, full blood machines, milking machine testing equipment and all Farm Vets have EASI Scanners. This is a vibrant, enthusiastic and dynamic team who are always keen to progress.

They have an outstanding team of 6 dedicated farm Vets who are assisted by a wonderful Nursing and support team. The teams are welcoming, knowledgeable and very supportive.

The practice has a varied caseload with loyal clients. They are located in a high-density stock area where a large proportion of their dairy clients are family-run farms. The majority of whom are on regular health and fertility visits, which means you are able to build great rapport with your clients but are also able to get to know your patients well too. The practice runs health-planning schemes for beef and sheep clients, including bull and ram breeding soundness examinations. Farmer training is offered to all farmers and there is minimal TB testing as they have a dedicated TB testing vet and a 1:5 farm only rota.

South Cumbria is a great location based near the national parks of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District offering stunning natural beauty and lots of outdoor activities, to enjoy in your spare time. The client is close to major link roads and the M6 allowing great access to many cities, if you prefer to spend your weekends in a busier setting. The client can also offer great accommodation, a recently renovated 3 bed house with new bathroom and kitchen, garden and parking on an unfurnished basis.

The role:

  • Shifts; 8:30am – 5:30pm
  • Days; 4 / 4.5 / 5 days per week available, at your preference
  • On Call; 1 in 5 Farm Only
  • Weekends; Just 1 in 5! Saturdays 8:30am – 12 and then on call through to Monday am
  • Pool car can be provided, should you wish

Our client has a proactive Farm Vet team, which is led by experienced vet, working in the beautiful county of Norfolk. Based near Norwich (listed as one of top places to live in UK), Stansted and Luton airports, and London are all within 2 hours. The ideal candidate will bring an enthusiastic approach to providing high quality farm vet work, fitting in with the team and farmers. A desire to continue to learn and help drive the practice forward is also necessary. You will be joining a team of 4 full time vets and a full time TB tester. The practice has excellent facilities, including easi-scans, bull fertility testing kit and embryo flush/transfer kit. Case load includes dairy, beef, sheep and pigs if you want. The ideal candidate will have previous experience and experience of working as a farm vet in the UK would be an added bonus. Must be registered with Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and any OCQ-(V) qualifications would be advantageous. This is a full-time role which will include a 1 in 4 weeknight/weekend rota with time off in lieu for weekend work. VDS cover, workplace pension and private healthcare all provided with a CPD budget of 1200 and 5 days. 33 days holiday plus birthday leave. In addition, up to 3,000 Golden handshake is available for the right candidate.
