Opportunity for New or Recent Graduates to join SA Hospital Team in South Wales

Steph Ward
This client has an exciting opportunity available for a new or recently graduated vet to join their expanding team on the beautiful South Wales coast.

The team work in high quality hospital premises in Bridgend and are committed to excellent clinical care and extremely high standards.
They have silver level cat friendly status from the ISFM and have been awarded “outstanding” in 5 separate RCVS awards. They have extensive experience of employing new or recent graduate vets, with many of their current vets having started their professional careers with the team.

They understand that although you graduate with your day one competencies, it takes time to develop confidence in your abilities. With the assistance of the fantastic and diverse team of nurses, support staff and vets, including advanced practitioners in both medicine and surgery, the whole team would relish the opportunity to assist you in developing your skills and grow your confidence within the profession, allowing you to flourish. Alongside the support from this team, you will also be enrolled on the teams new graduate program and the new RCVS Graduate Development Program.

As a practice they host regular in-house CPD and clinical clubs. You would also be eligible to join any of the countless number of special interest groups within the wider group, allowing you to discuss, amongst many other things, complicated cases, new literature or upcoming CPD with fellow peers from all over the UK.

The role currently involves a varied mixture of consulting, medical investigations and surgical caseloads. Vets generally have 1 full operating day a week and 3 days of consulting, operating and procedures. As a practice, they actively encourage their vets to follow their cases through from consultation to diagnosis and treatment and once your confidence has grown the team would love for you to be able to carry out some branch work, with the reassurance of always having the ability to ask for help when needed.

Veterinary surgeons currently work a 1:12 out of hours rolling rota which includes 2 part weekends, 2 Saturday mornings and 1 week of nights. The remaining 11 weeks are an average 4 day week. Whilst on call you will always have the full support of one of the friendly senior veterinary clinicians who will be there to advise and help you with anything that you may need.

The starting salary on offer is between 31,500-40,000 commensurate with experience plus a package that includes 28 days holiday per year, 2 weeks full sick pay and 2 weeks half sick pay, Royal College fees and another professional subscription of your choice, health shield membership, and work based pension.

The location of this hospital situated in Bridgend, is nestled between the bright lights of Cardiff to the East and Swansea to the West, the rugged Brecon Beacons to the North and the award winning beaches to the South. So whether it’s a night on the tiles or a day spent hiking or surfing, this area really does have it all.
