Our Derbyshire based client require an additional veterinary surgeon to join their team. The role role will involve working in 3 different practices, one of which is a 24 hour hospital. As there will be occasional sole charge, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will have confidence in routine surgeries and medical cases.
The role will involve working a day week and no OOH's. There will be a 1 in 6 full weekend (days) rota which could be split if required.
There are certificate holders in Dermatology, Cardiology, and surgery withing the main hospital team and a dedicated OOH's team. Equipment includes laparoscopic tools, dental x-ray, digital x-ray, ultrasound etc.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience, be confident with sole charge, (very limited but must be able to work to this level) routine surgeries and consults. The practice is an RCVS accredited on the edge of the peak district, centrally located with easy access to transport networks.
This is a full or part time role and shifts/hours can be flexible for the right candidate. Weekends are on a rota and there are no out of hours. There may be occasional in-patient checks. The hospital is a fast paced practice with exceptional specialist equipment in situ. There are a number of wards for hospitalized pets and the hospital specifically keep cats and dogs in separate wards.
Client facing skills are integral for this 1st opinion Vet position, so applicants who really enjoy direct contact with the animal’s people. The practices have a regular returning customer base so naturally having the skills to build long term relationships is an asset.
This Small Animal Vet role will be at the hospital with some additional branch work, which will involve the usual routine procedures from 1st opinion pet care and maintenance but there will also be frequent situations where the route to the prognosis could be an interesting journey.
There will be some sole charge work for this role, so you will need to be confident in making decisions and taking responsibility for treatments. Approx 1:6 weekends and no OOH, as the practice have their own dedicated night staff.

The practice has a friendly client base who appreciate the personal service they provide. The practice has 1 other vet with a support team that are dedicated to their clients and patients.
This full time role would be working a 4 four day week, weekends are on a rota Sat 1 in 3 and full weekends on a 1:6. This allows you to have a great work/life balance. Bank holidays are also on a rota basis across the region with time back in lieu for any time worked.
You must be an experienced vet with a client-oriented approach and excellent communication skills. You must be able to work to a very high standard both medically and surgically and have the drive and ambition to help develop the practice further. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years' UK small animal practice (or UK equivalent) experience. This role requires a motivated vet to work confidently with the ability to make sound clinical judgements. Strong management and mentor skills are essential as you will play a crucial part within the team.
