Our client who is base near Ashford is looking for an experienced and motivational Clinical Director to help lead the team.
The client has a Hospital who has an excellent local reputation for ethical excellent veterinary care. The practice has been located in its current site for over 20 years and has had RCVS hospital status during this period. Many of the team either have or are studying for additional qualifications in Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, Emergency/Critical Care or Anaesthesia/Analgesia. With access to CT on site, laparoscopic/arthroscopic equipment, upgraded ultrasound, a full suite of orthopaedic kits (TPLO, APLS locking, AO/ASIF), dental radiography and two surgical theatres, you will be hard pressed to find a more equipped and able veterinary practice for the vast majority of first and second opinion veterinary needs. Due to the teams collaborative approach whilst working with each other, although the hospital is busy there is a great working atmosphere.
As one of the top Small Animal Veterinary Hospitals in Kent with two branch surgeries, the practice offer candidates an excellent package with the opportunity to enjoy a superb work/life balance. You will receive a competitive salary, pension scheme and 6 weeks’ holiday per year. The working pattern is 4 days/week – OOH cases are referred to an external provider.
The consulting hours run from 8am-8pm. Vets either start at 8am, 9am, 10:30am or 11am, with finish times of 6pm, 7pm or 8pm. There are at most 6-7 vets in per day with three consulting rooms operating over 12 hours, plus a group of vets and nurses working together on dedicated operating/procedures shifts. Lunch breaks run from 12:30/1pm to 2pm, with a dedicated 15 minute ward rounds at 1:45pm with all the vets and kennel nurses to discuss and finalise plans for the inpatients.
The out of hours care is performed by VetsNow in another practice, but they retain inpatient care of any pets who require ongoing care. There is a group of night nurses who work 8pm-8am overnight and there is a rolling overnight inpatient duty system many of the vets are rota'd.
As the Clinical Director you will have small animal experience, a Certificate in any discipline, previous management experience and the desire to make a difference with the veterinary team as a whole. A true team player who listens to the needs of the wider veterinary team, communicates effectively and leads by example. The role requires ideally a 50:50 balance between clinical and non-clinical workloads to cater to the needs of clients as well as the pets they treat.
The Clinical Director would also need to be able to support the less experienced vets and act as a mentor to team members. A strong desire for collaborative working with the rest of the Senior Management Team (Clinical Director, Practice Manager, Head Nurse, Deputy Head Nurse, Head Receptionist) is vital to ensure that the practice works collectively to achieve its shared goals.
