Full Time Registered Veterinary Nurse - Cheltenham

Our client has a recently refurbished practice based near Cheltenham and are looking for a Full Time Registered Veterinary Nurse to join them.

The practice is well equipped and has a digital x-ray machine, laboratory and theatre with operations taking place daily, and is practice standards core level. This is a busy first opinion practice, regularly performing referral level work such as TPLO's, thoracotomies and imaging such as CT, endoscopy and echocardiography. There are several RCVS Advanced practitioners in small animal surgery, cardiology and internal medicine and some Nurses hold qualifications in nutrition and behaviour. The amazing team consists of 20 Veterinary Surgeons across all 6 branches, 25 Veterinary Nurses, 2 Veterinary Care Assistants, 13 Veterinary Receptionists and a strong admin team.

This is a full-time role offering 36 hours Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 7pm plus 1:4 Saturdays 8am-1pm. The ideal candidate will also be able to cover at other branches as the sole nurse along with another Vet and receptionist.

The ideal candidate will be cheerful, confident in all areas of nursing and be very client-focused. It is particularly important to have excellent communication skills and in additional to medical/surgical nursing; you will be expected to take part in nursing consultations, providing the highest standards of veterinary care to clients. This is a varied role offering excellent experience in a high-end first opinion practice. You may be responsible for the hand overs to and from the OOH’s team who deal with a wide variety of urgent and critical medical and surgical cases.

The ideal candidate must be a Registered Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS. This role would suit a nurse that enjoys all areas of practice and enjoys both working as part of a large or smaller team. Experience and confidence is essential.

My client 45 mins drive North of Bristol have a modern hospital on the outskirts of Gloucester city centre, and are seeking Vets to work either full or part time, or somewhere in between! They are ideally keen to recruit vets with 2 years plus experience, (from a starting salary of 45k for 2 years) THEY ALSO WILL OFFER A GOLDEN HANDSHAKE OF 4K The main site has great facilities, sperate wards and waiting areas, cutting edge intensive care facilities including patient CCTV. They are equipped with a full imaging suite, lab and of course Digital X-Ray and ultrasound and various scopes. They have a medicine certificate holder and also possess a wide range of surgical kit so they can keep as many cases as possible in house. They have three other sites in the area and the team of 6 Vets work closely with the nurse team, of which there is a heavy ratio of nurse to vets, so there is always plenty of nurse support. A full time position, is based on working a 4 day week with 1:4 weekends ( part days in practice, but with the phones cover till 5.30 on Saturday and a 2pm finish on a Sunday) but no OOH, but the practice are flexible to discuss working hours depending on your requirements. They are also able to discuss roles working in the hospital or majority running a smaller branch depending on your needs, but you would be required to work across 2 of the 4 branches. and should be happy to work autonomously. This role is initially a year-long internship as part of this clients New Graduate Scheme with potential for a permanent long-term career. You will be involved in the hands-on care of a range of small-animals, providing both emergency and routine healthcare and educating pet owners about how they can manage and prevent further injuries and/or sickness. Key Responsibilities: Provide first-class care to injured/sick patients. Administer treatments including injections, tablets, drips and blood transfusions. Perform diagnostic tests, e.g. blood sampling, urine analysis and x-rays. Prepare animals for surgery and perform some minor procedures e.g neutering, suturing wounds and dental hygiene. Assist veterinary surgeons with major operations. The successful candidate will hold a degree in Veterinary Medicine, be registered with the RCVS and display good routine small animal surgical and medical skills. You will assist specialists in delivering anaesthesia, nursing care and chemotherapy to these patients also. Our client are an RCVS approved Veterinary Hospital with a team of friendly vets and qualified nurses who are available 24/7 with onsite care. The team are looking for a dedicated Night Veterinary Nurse to join the team working 7 nights on 7 nights off. You will be responsible for the overnight inpatient care of the 1st opinion and referral patients. The team see a range of different cases across their 1st opinion service and referral disciplines meaning no two nights are the same. You will get exposure to high dependency, critical patients. The hospital is in the final stages of an expansion to update and enlarge the reception and all clinical areas. You will be joining a team of 7 first opinion vets and 8 referral specialists who are supported by a larger team of 37 RVNs, SVNs and HAs. Overnight you will work alongside a hospital assistant and have the backup support of an on call team consisting of a nurse and 2 veterinary surgeons. Many of the nursing team have further qualifications which helps to support the more junior members of the team in their career development. The ideal applicant will have a desire for out of hours work and be able to work independently, not minding occasional lone working. At times the role requires quick thinking, problem solving and decision making. Previous night experience and referral nursing experience is advantageous but not essential. The role will suit somebody who strives in the inpatient care environment and is a calm and competent worker during emergency situations. You will be required to guide and direct the hospital assistant that you are working alongside. You must be an RVN with preferably a few years qualified experience.
