Full Time Specialist/Residency Trained Veterinary Ophthalmologist - Derby

Our client is the central small animal hospital for a group of practices in the Derby area who are now looking for a Veterinary Ophthalmologist.

This is a multi-species practice employing over 300 staff across 12 sites in the Midlands. The group pride itself on offering specialist services in Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Exotics. Cardiology and Dermatology with advanced practitioners alongside on-site Hydrotherapy and Physiotherapy. The state-of-the-art hospital provides 24/7 veterinary care, supported by a dedicated night team.

A Specialist or residency trained ophthalmologist is required to join the established team. A referral clinician who is ready for something exciting and new, with the passion and skills to care for patients, customers and colleagues alike and be an integral part of a truly multidisciplinary team. You will have support from two Royal College Recognised Specialists in Veterinary Ophthalmology and an experienced BSAVA PGCert Small Animal Ophthalmology Certificate Holder.

The practice works in partnership with the University of Nottingham Veterinary School to provide undergraduate clinical training, so there would be opportunities to do some student teaching if interested. There is also a weekly clinical club to which you may want to contribute and gain experience in presenting to smaller audiences, or you may like the challenge of providing CPD to our referring vets when this can be started again. In addition, the inclusion of an equine hospital in our group means that there would be an opportunity for some equine ophthalmology, if wanted.

There are 2 fully equipped Ophthalmology consultation rooms and a dedicated Ophthalmology theatre with Zeiss OPMI Lumera surgical microscope and Bausch & Lomb Stellaris phacoemulsification machine. The Ophthalmology team is composed of two Ophthalmology diploma holders/RCVS Recognised Specialists, an Ophthalmology Certificate Holder and dedicated Ophthalmology Nurse. They also offer in-house laboratory services, allowing for quick and efficient investigations when required. 24-hour in-patient care is provided by a very competent team of nurses and night staff.

Required skills and experience….
1. ECVO or equivalent residency trained.
2. ECVO or equivalent specialist status will be prioritised
3. A full range of surgical intervention capability

Desirable Skills:
1. Peer reviewed publications and CPD delivery portfolio at recognised events
2. Further qualifications and accreditations in Ophthalmology and beyond
3. Previous experience in teaching
4. Interest and experience in corneal cross linking
