Our client is looking for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to grow the practice in the heart of the local community. The clinic is part of a group of 10 practices based in South Wales.

The branch is situated within the Brecon Beacons with some beautiful country walks just a short distance away which include the Taff trail and the area is also home to the legendary Penderin Whiskey distillery. The branch is close to local amenities with the main train and bus stations close by if wanting to take a short journey’s to Cardiff, Neath & Merthyr Tydfil.

The branch is fully equipped and includes a small in house lab, x-ray, ultrasound and K-Lazer plus has the back up of our 24 hour hospital and certificate holders. The team consist of an experienced RVN and a newly qualified RVN, student veterinary nurse and 2 part time receptionists.

A good work life balance is very important to them and they are able to offer a 4 day working week and would also consider a part time position for the right candidate. Our client in Pembrokeshire has a new opportunity for 2 ambitious and energetic full-time small animal locum veterinary surgeons (part-time could be considered) to join their mixed practice and help the team through the Summer. Their vision is to be a premier small animal veterinary practice, with a highly trained and contented team. They aim to provide high quality evidence-based veterinary care, with compassion. Located in Pembrokeshire, west Wales, surrounded by beautiful beaches, country walks and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, this is very much a rural practice. Their main small animal surgery in Haverfordwest offers surgery, dentistry, internal laboratory, ultrasound, radiography and endoscopy. The other branch practice has an internal laboratory, dentistry and surgical facilities and is the site of the aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, and where the teams rehab/physio nurses are based. Although rural, the team pride themselves on providing a first-class small animal service, being able to practise excellent medicine with great clients. Their small animal client base does have a bias towards dogs, but they see plenty of cats, small furries and the occasional exotic and bird. The clients also vary both financially and in expectations, so an ability to flex your people skills and adapt your approach to bring the clients along in the treatment of their pet is essential. The main work would include routine consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures. The team aim to give all small animal vets a share of the surgical workload (if they so wish). The most complex surgery is conducted in-house by an RCVS AP in Small Animal Surgery. The team encourage and fund CPD and the development of clinical interests. Currently one vet is studying towards a certificate in small animal practice, alongside the surgery certificate holder and a diplomate in anaesthesia. The successful candidate will bring numbers in the rota up to 7, the vets work a 4.5-day week in general, with a combination of early finishes (1pm once a week), standard finishes (5pm) and later finishes (7pm on your night on-call). For permanent staff members you will receive your RCVS fees, BVA and VDS memberships. Salary varies with experience (from 32-42k). 5 days and 1750 for CPD, though flexibility can be considered for those wishing to pursue further qualifications. This group of 4 RCVS accredited practices, set in the beautiful Welsh countryside, are looking for an experienced vet to work part-time at one of their branch practices. The ideal candidate will have at least two years post graduation experience and be happy with consultations and routine surgeries. You will be joining a team of 6 Vets, 5 RVN’s, 2 Student VN’s, and full additional support team. The role is full time working four days per week but there are no out of hours at the practice. Weekends are on a 1:6 rota, allowing a great work/life balance. The vet team are very experienced and include a certificate holder in ECC and other vets are awaiting exams for certificates in ECC and two in small animal medicine (these qualifications have been delayed due top covid but are still ongoing). With this in mind the client is open to hear from candidates who are looking for a supportive practice, where they can persue their interest and passions and where CPD and certificates are supported and funded. The vets have quite varied interests with most liking to do a bit of everything. The team do complete fairly complex surgeries and medicine workups. There would be an opportunity for a surgical vet or someone with an interest in orthopaedics although this is not essential. The vet rota is a 4-day week with a rotating weekend rota (currently 1:5). The weekend rota is Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 9.30-11 but there no out of hours with this role. Holiday allowance is 5-weeks prorated plus birthday and bank holidays off. The practice also operates a time off in lieu system trial for vets since January which seems to be working well and is likely to stay in place to ensure that any overtime is recognised. The practice currently work a mix of surgical and consultation shifts each week. The practice is passionate about supporting and encouraging professional development. They have associates throughout the team that are responsible for specific areas in practice (e.g. dental champions, mental health, health and safety, infection control etc). They complete bi-annual individual professional development meetings and create development plans for associates. They are also passionate about ensuring we are striving for gold standard patient care. The practice also have monthly team meetings and morbidity and mortality meetings. They encourage the use of Vetsafe and use the data to evaluate our practice and make necessary changes. The team is incredible, everyone is really friendly and ready to help each other. There is no tension within the team and they are all good friends outside of work too. In normal times they would have meals/ evenings out. The team have a group book club (currently run on zoom!), In the past they have organised 'retreats' where they go away to a cottage for a weekend for a break, they go for walks and one of our vets is responsible for their wellbeing diary where exercise classes, yoga, art etc is put in the diary and anyone can join in. Our client in South Wales have a vacancy for a veterinary surgeon with 12 months or mores experience to join them. As some of the work will involve sole charge it is important that all candidates are comfortable with routine surgical procedures such as cat and dog neuters, lump removals etc. They also need to confident with routine medical consultations and work ups. Senior vets will always be on hand for clinical support or referral for more complex cases.
