This well established small animal practice in Bridgend, South Wales are recruiting for a skilled and knowledgeable Veterinary Surgeon to join their team.

The Practice Partner and the team have a 5* rating and work out of a purpose built small animal practice that is equipped with a dedicated hospital ward & isolation unit, in house biochemistry lab machines, dentistry equipment, doppler ultrasound and digital x-ray. They are due to move to new premises this year

The practice is only 30 minutes from Cardiff and has easy access to the M4.

Offering great facilities and a wide and varied caseload, this position will suit an experienced and knowledgeable Vet Surgeon with a solid track record for working to the highest of standards.

Being able to demonstrate a strong level of communication and organisational skills, you will be able to manage your time effectively with 15 minute appointments, from everyday procedures to working up caseloads.

The ideal candidate will be someone who can fulfil a full time rota, across 4 days, including weekends however there are no OOH and less hours can potentially be accommodated for the right person.

Our client who is based in the Pembrokshire area is looking for two additional small animal vets to join their team. Although these positions have come up due to maternity leave, these will be permanent roles. The 4 practice is surrounded by beautiful beaches, country walks and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The main small animal surgery offers great facilities including surgery, dentistry, internal laboratory, ultrasound, radiography and endoscopy. An additional nearby site has internal laboratory, dentistry and surgical facilities and has aquatic treadmill for hydrotherapy, where their rehab/physio nurses are based. The group sees a wide range of cases including dogs, cats, small furries and the occasional exotic and bird. The client base varies both financially and in expectations, so an ability to flex your people skills and adapt your approach to bring the clients along in the treatment of their pet, is essential. Your main work would include routine consultations, diagnostics and surgical procedures. The practice aim to give all small animal vets a share of the surgical workload (if they so wish). Most complex surgery is conducted in-house by an RCVS AP in Small Animal Surgery. They encourage and fund CPD and the development of clinical interests. Currently one vet is studying towards a certificate in small animal practice, alongside the surgery certificate holder and a diplomate in anaesthesia. This is a friendly and experienced team of vets and staff who will be able to provide you with the support you need to develop your skills whilst working in this busy practice, allowing you to develop your own clinical pathway. This ideally these a full time positions but consideration can be given to part time candidates with hours to suit their needs. Normally vets work a 4.5-day week in general, with a combination of early finishes (1pm once a week), standard finishes (5pm) and later finishes (7pm on your night on-call). The on call rota equates to 1:7 rota every week. Salary will be based on experience, with RCVS fees, BVA and VDS memberships covered as well. 5 days and 1750 for CPD, though flexibility can be considered for those wishing to pursue further qualifications. The practice is in the process of installing a dental x-ray (just waiting on health and safety to be signed off). The ideal candidate will have at least two years post graduation experience and be happy with consultations and routine surgeries. You will be joining a team of 6 Vets, 5 RVN’s, 2 Student VN’s, and full additional support team. The role is full time working four days per week but there are no out of hours at the practice. Weekends are on a 1:6 rota, allowing a great work/life balance. The vet team are very experienced and include a certificate holder in ECC and other vets are awaiting exams for certificates in ECC and two in small animal medicine (these qualifications have been delayed due top covid but are still ongoing). With this in mind the client is open to hear from candidates who are looking for a supportive practice, where they can persue their interest and passions and where CPD and certificates are supported and funded. The vets have quite varied interests with most liking to do a bit of everything. The team do complete fairly complex surgeries and medicine workups. There would be an opportunity for a surgical vet or someone with an interest in orthopaedics although this is not essential. The vet rota is a 4-day week with a rotating weekend rota (currently 1:5). The weekend rota is Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 9.30-11 but there no out of hours with this role. Holiday allowance is 5-weeks prorated plus birthday and bank holidays off. The practice also operates a time off in lieu system trial for vets since January which seems to be working well and is likely to stay in place to ensure that any overtime is recognised. The practice currently work a mix of surgical and consultation shifts each week. The practice is passionate about supporting and encouraging professional development. They have associates throughout the team that are responsible for specific areas in practice (e.g. dental champions, mental health, health and safety, infection control etc). They complete bi-annual individual professional development meetings and create development plans for associates. They are also passionate about ensuring we are striving for gold standard patient care. The practice also have monthly team meetings and morbidity and mortality meetings. They encourage the use of Vetsafe and use the data to evaluate our practice and make necessary changes. The team is incredible, everyone is really friendly and ready to help each other. There is no tension within the team and they are all good friends outside of work too. In normal times they would have meals/ evenings out. The team have a group book club (currently run on zoom!), In the past they have organised 'retreats' where they go away to a cottage for a weekend for a break, they go for walks and one of our vets is responsible for their wellbeing diary where exercise classes, yoga, art etc is put in the diary and anyone can join in.
