Part Time Exotics Registered Veterinary Nurse - near Derby

Our client offers a range of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, within their referral services clinic near Derby. The diagnostics and treatments are second to none and they have many highly trained and experienced colleagues to ensure that patients receive the very best treatment. They are now looking for a Part Time Exotics Registered Veterinary Nurse to join them.

They strive to deliver world class patient care and the fantastic facilities provide a superb care environment, including 13 consultation rooms, 7 hospital wards, 5 theatres, full advanced imaging suite, 3 ultrasound rooms, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmills and dedicated chemo & radio-iodine treatment rooms define the setting.

You will enjoy being hands-on and are able to work alongside the existing team in this growing and developing discipline. will also assist with Inpatient care, surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, anaesthesia, organisation of the day and the day-to-day running of the exotics ward. You will have the support to enable you to develop your skills and knowledge, to ensure you provide gold standard care to a range of species. Advanced qualifications such as Certificates, diplomas and VTS are all fully supported.

The working hours for this role are an average of 19 hours per week spread over 2/3 days, however there is some flexibility regarding shift times. You will be required to take part in the weekend rota working a 1 in 6 weekend, either Saturday or Sunday from 7.45am to 6pm. They have a bank holiday rota in place, which means the nursing team are required to work 1 or 2 bank holidays a year. There would also be a requirement to take part in an on-call rota (1 night approximately every 8 weeks)- further information on this would be discussed at the interview.

The exotics department is a friendly and supportive team. It is a busy yet rewarding discipline that sees a variety of cases daily. You will work alongside the Exotic’s Specialist, 2 Exotic’s Vets, 3 dedicated Exotic Nurses and Exotics Kennel Assistant. The facilities enable them to provide care for a range of small mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, as well as wildlife. The team is always expanding, opening new opportunities for career development. They have an extensive inhouse CPD program to enhance the skills of the existing nurses and a leadership program to support career progression.

You must be registered with the RCVS, have experience with exotics/wildlife, organised and able to prioritise, professional, confident, eager to learn new skills, have a drive to develop discipline and nursing care for patients. It would be beneficial to already have experience in a busy hospital environment and a drive to develop your professional knowledge.

In this position you will be able to work closely with cases and ensure they are receiving the best attention and care. You will be able to be hands on and work alongside the current surgery nurse and clinicians. There will be the opportunity to participate in daily Inpatient rounds where they discuss hospitalised patients and plan the day. An important part of this role is looking after the inpatients by helping with wound/dressing care, shockwave treatments and new treatments such as Canine Platelet Rich Plasma. There will be some client contact as part of this role as you be will be required to contact clients to arrange appointments and arrange admits/discharges. You will help to liase with referral reception, assisting with emergency cases and filtering through advice emails from referring vets and clients. The role is full-time, all RVNs work a 4 day week (38hrs) in the interest of providing a healthy work-life balance for the team. They will also consider part-time applications. The working hours for this role are varied and could be 8am to 5pm or 8.30am to 5.30pm (with one late working until 7pm). You will be required to take part in the weekend rota working a 1 in 6 full weekends from 7.45am to 6pm, 2 lieu days would be given the following week in exchange for the weekend work. There is a bank holiday rota in place which means the nursing team are required to work 1 or 2 bank holidays a year. There would also be a requirement to take part in the night cover and on call rota, further information on this would be discussed at interview. Due to the nature of the role you must have a flexible attitude to provide support to the team in all capacities. This is a full-time role for 38 hours, spread over 4 days per week. To be successful in the role you will be a registered RVN who has enthusiasm, an excellent work ethic, team spirit and a passion for clinical excellence. Ideally, you will have previous referral experience, however this is not essential as training will be provided.
