Additional Full or Part Time Small Animal Vet near Newcastle

Julie Powell

Our client located west of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, is a long-established practice offering a friendly and comprehensive service to the local community. They are now looking for an additional Small Animal Vet to join the team.

With the stunning countryside of the Tyne Valley and vibrant city of Newcastle on the doorstep, the stunning Northumberland coast close at hand the practice is wonderfully located. The clinic is supported by their Tier-3 hospital with a reputation for excellent clinical care, and a friendly and close-knit team.

They accept a small referral caseload in ECC, medical and surgical disciplines. Out-of-hours cover is provided by their own in-house ECC team, providing optimal continuity of care. The hospital is well-equipped, including CR x-ray, high-spec ultrasound, endoscopy & endo-surgery. The other 3 branch surgeries work closely with the hospital and also have operating, dental and laboratory facilities.

There is a team of 15 daytime Veterinary Surgeons, 2 night-time ECC Vets, 16 Veterinary Nurses and 6 Nursing Assistants all of whom are permanent staff. They have an Advanced Practitioner in surgery and a medicine certificate-holder, with several vets also working towards advanced qualifications in surgery, medicine and cardiology. The integration of the daytime and night-time teams ensures optimal patient care and fantastic teamwork. There is also plenty of contact between branches and hospital with most vets working between sites and monthly team meetings (during working hours, of course). The team ethos is important, with frequent socials and pizza fuelled in-house CPD and journal clubs both lunchtime and evenings. They are a proud host practice for the Pet Blood Bank and work with several local charities.

They are seeking an additional colleague keen to help them drive the next phase of their growth. The clinic has an active and loyal client base that they are keen to nurture. The position is primarily branch-based (consulting and operating) but can include some hospital shifts if desired. The branch has 2-vets, 4-RVN’s which operates almost independently of the main hospital and is fully equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, lab, endoscopy, operating and dental facilities.

Full time vets work a 4-day week, with fixed day off. 1 in 6 weekends worked at branch and hospital with experienced colleagues and 1 in 3 Saturday mornings working 3 hours at the branch. Applications from vets seeking a part-time position would be welcome. There is no night-time OOH and latest daytime finish is 6.30pm. Some sole charge at the branch is anticipated but workload on these days would be adjusted accordingly. Salary range up to 55,000 depending on experience plus welcome bonus of up to 3000 and relocation package of up to 5000.
