Our client is looking for an experience locum from Tues 3rd April for six weeks.

You must be an excellent communicator, confident with sole charge, diagnostics and the procedures and presentations commonly encountered in small animal veterinary practice. The practice is a 3.5 vet, RCVS Practice Standards Scheme Accredited General Practice, in a very pleasant area of Hertfordshire (about 30 miles North of London with easy access to the capital as well as good rail, road and air links for travel further afield). The client has very capable support staff including a team of 5 RVNs. The practice has a good reputation amongst the public in the local area as well as with the specialist centres in the vicinity. There are no OOH's with this role, the phones are transferred to the Royal Veterinary College's Queen Mother Hospital for Animals which is approximately half an hour away. The practice is equipped to a good standard including ultrasound and x-ray facilities (including a dental x-ray unit) and aim to provide patients and their owners with excellent customer service, seeking to offer tailored, individualised veterinary care. The client runs 15 minute appointments and the nursing team offer nurse consultation services too.

The ideal candidate who is confident in the consulting room and with the typical day to day surgeries likely to be required of a first opinion small animal practitioner. There is no sole charge, though if there are inpatients hospitalised overnight it might be necessary to visit them to administer medications or on occasion, if they are particularly sick, to stay at the practice (this is rare and the shifts are always shared with other members of the team).

Our client can provide accommodation but this not accessible by foot and therefore you would need your own transport. The hours vary slightly week by week but are generally 4.5 days per week with an average of about 42 hours (3 of the Saturdays are needed though those are morning consulting sessions only from 8.30am to 1.30pm and the regular staff member would take responsibility for looking after any inpatients over the rest of the weekend).
