Team Lead – Veterinary Surgeon, Ashton
This large practice is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Veterinary Surgeon to join the team as a Development Lead. This key leadership position is focused on supporting clinical excellence, developing veterinary talent, and providing mentorship to help clinicians achieve their full potential.
The successful candidate will play an important role in guiding the professional development of recent veterinary graduates and early-career clinicians, supporting clinical governance, and ensuring the team continues to work to the highest standards in line with the RCVS Code of Conduct.
As Team Leader, the Veterinary Surgeon will oversee clinical training, act as a VetGDP Advisor, and work closely with the Lead Vet to identify development needs and implement appropriate support. They will provide line management and mentorship to recently qualified Veterinary Surgeons and, when required, support the Clinical Operations Lead and Practice Manager with the management and development of more experienced members of the veterinary team. Plus, working alongside them, the successful candidate will help deliver training sessions, identify areas for improvement, and contribute to ongoing clinical development initiatives. They will also support performance reviews, career discussions, and goal setting to encourage continued professional growth across the team. You will take responsibility for supporting the clinical growth of new graduate and early-career Veterinary Surgeons, helping them build confidence, develop their skills, and progress successfully through their careers.
A key aspect of the role will be maintaining and improving clinical standards within the practice. You will contribute to clinical governance activities, support clinical audits, review performance within their area of responsibility, and ensure that company protocols and high standards of patient care are consistently maintained.
The role will also involve attending site leadership meetings, deputising at Lead Vet meetings where required, and working collaboratively with senior colleagues to support the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. The position provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Veterinary Surgeon looking to develop their leadership skills and progress towards a future Lead Vet role.
The ideal candidate will be an MRCVS or FRCVS Veterinary Surgeon with strong clinical experience and a genuine passion for mentoring and developing others. They will hold VetGDP Advisor accreditation and have excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
Working Pattern
The role offers a 38-hour working week across a four-day schedule, with a fixed day off on Thursdays. Weekend commitment is approximately 1 in 9 Saturdays.
Benefits
They provide a comprehensive benefits package, including six weeks of annual leave including bank holidays, visa sponsorship where applicable, funded CPD and certificate opportunities, private healthcare, and a 52-week sickness benefit with access to a free employee assistance programme following the qualifying period.
Additional benefits include enhanced maternity and paternity packages, a contributory pension scheme, paid RCVS and VDS fees, access to counselling support covering mental health, financial, and life advice after 12 months of service, as well as cycle-to-work and electric vehicle schemes.
