This Veterinary Group is seeking a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and supportive team in East Lancashire, following the departure of several colleagues who are emigrating. This is an opportunity to work in a practice that values high-quality patient care while offering genuine flexibility and work-life balance. The location combines charming villages and beautiful countryside with convenient access to Manchester and Leeds, making it ideal for both professional and personal life.
The practice is well-established and RCVS-accredited, providing first-opinion care to a diverse small animal client base. It operates from a main hospital, with consulting and surgical facilities in Burnley, and an additional consulting branch. The surrounding area offers historic towns such as Skipton and Clitheroe, outdoor activities in the Ribble Valley and the Pennines, excellent local amenities, and good schools, all complemented by strong transport links.
The role is primarily based at the Burnley branch and is full-time, although flexible or part-time arrangements can be discussed. It is a consulting-focused position, centred on client interaction and clinical decision-making, with the option to carry out routine procedures to maintain surgical skills. There are no out-of-hours duties, as they operate a dedicated OOH service, ensuring continuity of care for patients. The salary for the role ranges from £45,000 to £65,000, depending on experience.
The ideal candidate will have completed their VetGDP, be confident managing routine consultations, and demonstrate strong communication skills and excellent client care. A willingness to learn, engage in CPD, and collaborate within a supportive team is essential.
They offer flexible working schedules, a highly experienced and approachable team—including certificate holders in medicine, dentistry, and ECC—and well-equipped facilities. The main hospital features digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, two surgical theatres, a dental suite with x-ray, in-house laboratory, and separate canine and feline wards. The Burnley branch includes three consulting rooms, a surgical theatre, an in-house lab, and a kennel ward.
Career development is supported through a generous CPD allowance, paid CPD days, and access to specialist expertise in ultrasonography and cardiology. Additional benefits include RCVS membership, VDS cover, professional subscriptions, 6.6 weeks of annual leave (pro-rata), volunteer leave, corporate gym membership, Cycle to Work scheme, optional private medical insurance, and a strong focus on employee wellbeing. Mental health first aiders, wellbeing champions, and regular social events contribute to a culture that genuinely values work-life balance.
The team consists of around 65 staff working across all branches, fostering a cohesive and collaborative environment. The practice prides itself on a welcoming culture, which is appreciated by both staff and clients alike. This role is an excellent opportunity for a vet seeking a supportive, flexible, and professionally rewarding position in a beautiful part of the UK.
