This veterinary Hospital in East London is seeking two experienced and well-rounded GP veterinary surgeons to join its busy and dynamic team, offering an excellent opportunity to work within one of London’s largest providers of emergency and critical care services. This role would particularly suit vets who enjoy a hospital environment and are confident managing a varied and high caseload. Previous experience in emergency and critical care, along with ultrasonography, would be advantageous given the nature of the work.
The hospital is recruiting for both a full-time position and a part-time role of three days per week, with some flexibility to explore additional shifts within nearby branches if desired. The successful candidates will be confident in routine surgical procedures such as spays and dentals, as well as capable of handling emergency cases. With a strong focus on diagnostic imaging, the role is especially suited to those with an interest in developing or utilising imaging skills.
Working as a GP hospital vet involves a combination of consulting, surgery, ward duties, and emergency care. The role requires delivering high standards of evidence-based clinical care, maintaining compliance with professional guidelines, and managing cases thoroughly using appropriate diagnostic tools such as radiography and laboratory testing. Vets are expected to work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating sound clinical judgement, effective time management, and a client-focused approach, while contributing positively to team morale and hospital culture.
The rota operates on a six-week cycle, averaging around 40 hours per week for full-time and 30 hours for part-time, and includes a shared weekend rotation. This structure allows exposure to all areas of the hospital, providing a varied and engaging workload. There is also limited involvement in bank holidays and a last-resort on-call rota.
They offer a comprehensive range of services, including first opinion, emergency, critical care, and referrals, supporting a large network of local practices. The hospital is equipped with advanced facilities such as a CT scanner, an on-site laboratory, and specialist surgical services, enabling the team to manage complex and advanced cases in-house.
The successful candidates will join a large, collaborative team of around 25 vets, supported by a substantial nursing and support staff, as well as an experienced leadership structure that ensures guidance and professional development at all levels.
Located in East London, the location provides the perfect balance between city and green space, with excellent transport links via the Central Line and access to nearby countryside. The area also offers a wide range of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, making it an attractive place to live and work.
The salary for these roles ranges from £45,000 to £73,000 (full-time equivalent), depending on experience, with clear opportunities for progression. The benefits package includes generous annual leave, private medical insurance, a substantial CPD allowance with funded study days, and relocation support where applicable, making this an appealing opportunity for vets looking to advance their careers in a well-equipped and supportive hospital environment.
