An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join the supportive and experienced day team in a 24 hour small animal Hospital in Leeds. This position would suit an RVN who is keen to develop their nursing career, broaden their clinical knowledge and gain experience within a busy and progressive 24-hour hospital environment.
The successful candidate will work on a full-time basis, averaging 40 hours per week across four days. The rota includes a mixture of early and late shifts, together with a 1 in 4 weekend commitment, consisting of two 10-hour shifts.
The hospital is particularly interested in hearing from experienced RVNs who can bring strong clinical knowledge and practical experience to the team. However, applications are also welcomed from newly qualified nurses who have gained valuable experience during their training, particularly within a hospital setting or in areas such as anaesthesia and inpatient care. Previous experience is beneficial, but enthusiasm, a strong commitment to patient care and a genuine desire to develop are equally important.
This is a 24-hour RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Centre, established in over 15 years ago. Alongside a busy first-opinion service, the hospital provides out-of-hours and referral-level support to many referring practices. This creates a varied and stimulating caseload, giving the nursing team exposure to everything from routine procedures and patient care through to complex medical, surgical and referral cases.
With a team of more than 60 colleagues, the hospital offers a strong culture of learning and collaboration. The team includes veterinary surgeons and nurses with postgraduate qualifications across areas including emergency and critical care, small animal surgery, medicine, dentistry and anaesthesia. Further training and qualifications are actively encouraged, ensuring there are excellent opportunities to learn from experienced colleagues and continue progressing professionally.
As a nurse-led hospital, RVNs play an integral role in the delivery of inpatient, anaesthetic and surgical care. Nurses are encouraged to take an active role in patient management and develop their skills across a wide range of clinical areas. Depending on experience and interests, there will be opportunities to build confidence in areas such as advanced anaesthesia monitoring, complex medical nursing, feeding tube management, wound and drain care and Schedule 3 surgical procedures.
The role also offers the opportunity to rotate through different areas of the hospital, including the wards and theatres, allowing nurses to develop a broad range of skills and confidence across all aspects of veterinary nursing.
Professional development is strongly supported through regular in-house CPD, mentoring and access to experienced colleagues. Dedicated team communication groups also provide opportunities for clinical discussion and day-to-day support. The management team places great importance on colleague wellbeing, with additional support available through a Mental Health First Aider and a nurse currently training as a life coach.
This is an excellent opportunity for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic RVN who is excited by the prospect of working within a busy hospital environment. Whether already experienced or at the beginning of their qualified nursing career, the successful candidate will be joining a welcoming team where questions are encouraged, learning is supported and professional development is genuinely valued.
Most importantly, the practice is looking for someone with a strong commitment to patient care, a willingness to learn and the ambition to continue developing their nursing skills within a supportive and forward-thinking hospital.
