Veterinary Surgeon – Day and Out-of-Hours Role -part time 15 hrs a week
An exciting opportunity has become available to join a recently refurbished, well-equipped veterinary hospital offering both daytime and out-of-hours responsibilities. The practice operates an established out-of-hours service, currently supporting eight surrounding practices, and provides access to excellent clinical facilities in a modern working environment.
The hospital features impressive equipment and facilities, including three operating theatres within a clean corridor setup, with digital radiography available in the orthopaedic theatre, as well as an ultrasound suite, dental facilities, endoscopy equipment, and digital x-ray. The practice and cattery are maintained to Gold ISFM standards, and the hospital achieved RCVS Practice Standards Scheme Hospital status in late 2025, reflecting its commitment to high clinical standards.
This position combines daytime and out-of-hours work within a structured six-week rolling rota. The role includes ten daytime shifts of nine hours each during the six-week cycle, designed to complement the out-of-hours rota, with some flexibility available for the right candidate. Night responsibilities follow a fixed pattern of seven shifts across the same period, alternating between a three-night Friday to Sunday block and a four-night Monday to Thursday block.
Day shifts are arranged across a combination of shorter and longer blocks, including occasional weekend coverage, with shifts scheduled between 8am and 8pm. The out-of-hours service operates from 7:30pm through to 8:30am the following morning. Overall, the position averages approximately 29 hours per week across both day and night commitments.
The salary is offered at up to £65,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience.
The successful candidate will join a knowledgeable and experienced team that works collaboratively to deliver outstanding care to patients and clients. The practice places strong emphasis on creating a respectful and supportive environment where colleagues are encouraged to develop professionally and feel valued in their role. Ongoing training and development are supported through a generous CPD allowance, alongside opportunities to expand clinical skills.
The role includes an extensive benefits package designed to support both personal wellbeing and career growth. Benefits include generous annual leave, professional memberships and VDS cover, enhanced family leave policies, health and wellbeing support, discounted veterinary treatment, company sick pay, shopping and travel discounts, cycle-to-work schemes, annual salary reviews, and access to career progression opportunities.
