Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Surgeon – New 24/7 Hospital
Recently opened | Flexible Working Options | ECC Focus
A new opportunity is available for an Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) Veterinary Surgeon to join the team at a brand-new 24/7 veterinary hospital in Teesside. Designed to expand access to affordable veterinary care across the Teesside region, the hospital will also provide a dedicated out-of-hours service to ensure pets receive the treatment they need at any time of day or night.
The practice is now building a committed ECC team to deliver high-quality emergency and critical care services. Working alongside a qualified Registered Veterinary Nurse, the successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of medical and surgical emergencies while overseeing inpatient care. As part of a wider 24-hour network operating across four hospitals, night teams benefit from continuous clinical support and collaboration, ensuring veterinary surgeons are never working in isolation and always have colleagues available for case discussion.
About the Hospital
The new purpose-built facility has been designed to provide first-opinion, referral, and out-of-hours care within a modern and well-equipped clinical environment. The hospital will include nine spacious consultation rooms, three fully equipped operating theatres, a diagnostic suite, digital radiography, a dedicated dental suite, and an isolation unit. Separate cat and dog wards will support low-stress patient care, while a central preparation area will help maintain an efficient clinical workflow.
As a non-profit company, they operate differently from many veterinary providers. Rather than prioritising profit, the organisation focuses on delivering accessible, high-quality care while generating sustainable income to support long-term services.
The organisation’s mission is rooted in the belief that no pet should go untreated or face euthanasia where a viable treatment option exists. Recognising the financial challenges many owners face, they work to make veterinary treatment more accessible helping to remove barriers that may otherwise prevent pets from receiving the care they need.
The Ideal Candidate
The role would suit a Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine passion for Emergency and Critical Care and a desire to continue developing their clinical expertise. The successful applicant will be compassionate, adaptable, and motivated by making a meaningful difference to patients and their owners. Confidence in a fast-paced environment, enthusiasm for a varied caseload, and the ability to collaborate closely with both night and day teams are essential.
The team is particularly keen to hear from individuals who share the organisation’s social mission and are committed to delivering accessible veterinary care without compromising quality.
Working Pattern
The practice is primarily seeking a Veterinary Surgeon for a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota (28 hours per week), though alternative working arrangements, including full-time hours (40 per week), may also be considered.
Benefits
The role offers excellent training and career development opportunities, alongside a comprehensive benefits package that includes six weeks’ holiday, funded CPD, paid RCVS and VDS fees, and a contributory pension scheme. Additional benefits include enhanced maternity and paternity leave, private healthcare and sickness benefits after qualifying service, an employee assistance programme, visa sponsorship, staff discounts, a cycle-to-work scheme, and a refer-a-friend bonus.
This opportunity would particularly suit a Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about making veterinary care as accessible as possible and is looking to join an organisation that places quality of care and patient outcomes at the centre of everything it does.
