Our client has a group of successful practices in the Lancashire area and are now looking for a consult only vet to take on one of their branches.

There is a new management team in place who are looking to expand the and develop the services they provide to their clients. The branch has a supportive reception team and nurse clinics running alongside veterinary appointments and offers exciting prospects for those looking to join as the role will have development and growth opportunities. The client encourages advanced certificates or specific CPD to support those looking to enhance their clinical skills, in an environment capable of adapting to match.  There could be scope for an applicant with an interest in dermatology to develop a dermatology service within this branch. There is a nearby Tier 3 hospital who can provide surgical and inpatient care for their patients, time at the hospital during the working week would be considered if requested by the applicant.

Within the team there are 14 FTE vets, including three surgery certificate holders, two medicine certificate holders, an anaesthesia certificate holder and are able to provide advanced dental treatment with a vet completing her certificate in oral surgery and dentistry.  The nursing team are incredibly supportive, and handle many routine appointments to help with the workload of the vets, including some Schedule 3 procedures.  The hospital is well equipped with a CT scanner, advanced ultrasound, endoscopy, digital X-ray, dental radiography, and multiple surgical suites, as well as an onsite hydrotherapy & rehabilitation centre.

The candidate will be based at one of the branches, but will be working closely alongside the whole team. Time at other branches is possible, either on a fixed basis or even just for specific procedures or experiences as this can be organised within the rota. The practice has a vibrant, exciting feel, with regular out of work activities including monthly walks, social events.

The area has great transport links and is within 1 hour of Manchester and Liverpool airport and you can be in London within 2hrs on the train. Lancashire has a good mix of rural vs city.

The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to influence the shape and direction of the branch and to collectively build on the team and its facilities. The role will comprise of solely consulting and would suit those who are seeking independence and sole charge. However, there is potential to spend time each week at the fully equipped hospital to allow for a more varied case-load.

Day to day duties involve providing a consultation service to clients, ensuring the health and happiness of animals seen. Vaccinations, routine and non-routine appointments throughout each day. Candidates will be responsible for providing veterinary care to animals, prescribing medications, and day to day management of the branch practice.

A full time role would involve working typically 4 days per week between the hours of 9.15am & 6.00pm but there would also be the option of spending one of those days at the hospital if preferred. Weekend working is Saturdays only, 8am-3.30pm on a maximum of 1 in 4 and up to a 1 in 8 rota but no out of hours.  Salary of up to £70,000 + a welcome bonus of £10,000 (pro rata), relocation support of up to £7500.
