Veterinary Surgeon – Independent Veterinary Practice
Location: Brighton
Salary: £51,000–£68,000 per annum (pro rata for part-time)
An established independent veterinary practice in a coastal village near Brighton is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join its friendly and growing team. This opportunity is ideal for a confident GP vet with at least 2–3 years of experience who enjoys building long-term relationships with clients and providing high-quality first-opinion care.
The successful candidate will take primary responsibility for the branch, delivering a varied caseload that includes consultations alongside a manageable number of routine and non-routine surgical and dental procedures. The practice treats cats, dogs and small mammals, with a strong focus on continuity of care and exceptional client communication.
Both full-time and part-time applications are welcomed. The role includes one evening clinic each week, finishing at 6:30 pm, and participation in a one-in-three Saturday morning rota until 12:30 pm. There are no out-of-hours responsibilities, as emergency care is provided by a nearby referral practice. Overtime is uncommon but is paid in full when required, reflecting the practice's commitment to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
The clinic is well equipped with modern facilities, including digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory with Vetscan Imagyst and microscopy, a dedicated operating theatre, hospital facilities, dental equipment, oxygen generators, adjustable operating tables and air conditioning.
The successful Veterinary Surgeon will work alongside two part-time vets, two Registered Veterinary Nurses and an experienced reception team. Thursday will be allocated as the regular day off for the full-time position.
The practice offers a competitive salary of £51,000–£68,000, depending on experience and qualifications, together with five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays. Additional benefits include a £2,000 annual CPD allowance (pro rata for part-time), funded certificate support where appropriate, payment of professional fees, company pension, employee discount and free parking.
Founded in 1996, the practice has grown into a multi-award-winning, RCVS-accredited independent veterinary group with an excellent reputation for both patient care and employee wellbeing. It has received national recognition as one of the UK's top veterinary practices and continues to build a loyal client base allowing clinicians to develop lasting relationships with their patients and owners while maintaining clinical autonomy free from sales targets.
