Registered Veterinary Nurse – Emergency and Critical Care (OOH)
This Leeds Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse with a strong passion for emergency and critical care nursing to join its friendly, knowledgeable, and highly skilled out-of-hours (OOH) team. This is a modern, progressive veterinary hospital established in 2012 , As a family-run, RCVS Accredited Hospital and Emergency Service Clinic, the practice provides dedicated out-of-hours and referral support to 16 referring veterinary surgeries, while also maintaining a thriving first opinion service
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated nurse to become part of a supportive and experienced team within a modern 24-hour hospital environment. The practice provides access to advanced equipment and facilities, allowing the team to deliver the highest standard of patient care. The successful candidate will also benefit from a proactive in-house CPD and clinical development programme, alongside professional membership support through organisations including the RCVS, BVA, and BSAVA. The role follows a 7 nights on, 14 nights off rota pattern, with shifts running from 8pm to 8am. A veterinary surgeon and VCA are always present on-site overnight, with additional support from twilight nurses during the transition between day and night teams.
The purpose-built, air-conditioned facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including an IDEXX laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, advanced dental equipment, orthopaedic surgical equipment, endoscopy, Tonopen, CT, and laparoscopy facilities. They have a team of around 70 members, including 15 veterinary surgeons, dedicated day and night nursing teams, and veterinary care assistants.
Due to the nature of the role, the ideal candidate will have strong experience in advanced nursing care, including managing patients with oesophageal feeding tubes, chest drains, abdominal and wound drains, urinary catheters, and negative pressure wound therapy. The role also involves monitoring complex anaesthetics and critical cases, including caesarean sections, gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV) cases, and exploratory laparotomies.
The hospital is equipped with advanced monitoring technology, including multiparameter monitors and a Veta5 ventilator system, supporting the team in delivering exceptional emergency and critical care. Due to the complexity and variety of cases managed overnight, candidates who hold, or are actively working towards, an emergency and critical care nursing certificate are highly desirable.
