Veterinary Surgeon – Emergency and Critical Care (Night Service), Shrewsbury Hospital
This Hospital in Shrewsbury is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Surgeon with a passion for Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) to join the night team at its Shrewsbury Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a clinician who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to make a meaningful difference by providing accessible, high-quality veterinary care when pets need it most. The night service is fully supported by the hospital’s daytime first opinion and referral teams, providing excellent continuity of care, access to clinical expertise, and a collaborative working environment.
Shrewsbury Hospital is a 24-hour veterinary facility dedicated to delivering exceptional standards of patient care. The hospital is supported by a skilled team managing both emergency presentations and hospitalised patients, ensuring comprehensive care around the clock.
The purpose-built facility includes two operating theatres, including one designed for advanced surgical procedures, a dedicated dental suite, separate canine and feline wards with a strong focus on feline-friendly care, and five consulting rooms to support a varied caseload. The hospital manages a wide range of medical, soft tissue, and orthopaedic cases, providing Veterinary Surgeons with the opportunity to work alongside an experienced clinical team, including certificate holders in advanced areas of practice.
Rather than focusing solely on maximising profit, the organisation is committed to delivering its social mission while maintaining a sustainable business model that allows it to continue supporting pets and their owners.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be passionate about ECC and motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact. They will enjoy the challenge and variety of emergency work, thrive in a busy clinical environment, and have a compassionate approach towards both patients and their owners.
Ideally looking for someone who is keen to develop their technical skills, contribute to a supportive and talented team, and work closely with colleagues across both the night and daytime services to provide seamless patient care.
Working Pattern
This is a part-time night role averaging 20 hours per week, following a rota of 5 nights on and 16 nights off. The working pattern includes Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights during the first week, followed by two weeks off.
Shifts run from 7pm until 8am.
They offer a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent training and development opportunities, funded CPD, six weeks of annual leave, paid RCVS and VDS fees, and visa sponsorship where applicable.
Additional benefits include a cycle-to-work scheme, enhanced maternity and paternity packages, a 52-week sickness benefit, private healthcare after 12 months of service, staff discounts, and a contributory pension scheme with a 4% employer contribution.
