Small Animal – Leadership Opportunity
This position is suited to an experienced Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon who is looking to progress into a senior leadership role. It offers the chance to combine clinical work with strategic influence within a supportive and well-respected practice environment. The opportunity is based in Perthshire, a location widely regarded as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK.
This is a clinic with a long-established, purpose-built, RCVS-accredited small animal practice known for delivering a high standard of patient care while maintaining a positive and collaborative workplace culture. The successful candidate would join a knowledgeable and approachable team of veterinary surgeons, supported by a highly skilled group of registered veterinary nurses who play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the practice. Strong communication, teamwork and clinical excellence are central to how the practice operates.
The facilities are modern and well equipped, enabling a high level of clinical care. These include multiple consulting rooms, a dedicated imaging suite, a fully equipped dental area with dental radiography, two operating theatres, endoscopy equipment, advanced anaesthetic monitoring, and a comprehensive in-house laboratory capable of handling a wide range of diagnostics. The practice also benefits from visiting specialists in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery, and actively supports clinicians who wish to pursue further qualifications or develop specific clinical interests.
The Clinical Director role combines leadership responsibilities with ongoing clinical involvement. It is designed for someone who enjoys mentoring colleagues, maintaining high standards of care, and contributing to the strategic direction of the practice. The successful candidate would play an important role in guiding the team, supporting professional development, and strengthening client relationships, while continuing to work hands-on in a clinical capacity.
The working pattern is structured to promote a healthy work-life balance. Out-of-hours responsibilities are shared on a rota basis, with appropriate time off provided following on-call duties, including a full day after weeknight cover and extended time off after weekend commitments. The average working week is reduced through time off in lieu, and the diary is carefully managed to ensure a sustainable pace, with appropriate appointment lengths, dedicated catch-up periods, and protected time for emergencies. Continuous nursing support is available on site, including overnight care for inpatients.
A competitive salary of up to £80,000 is offered, depending on experience, alongside a comprehensive benefits package. This includes generous annual leave, payment of professional fees, and a flexible approach to continuing professional development, with funding available for certificates and further training. Additional benefits include discounted treatment for personal pets, enhanced family and sick pay, a health and wellbeing plan, and access to optional private medical insurance. Practical perks such as free onsite parking, a cycle-to-work scheme, and referral rewards are also provided.
Overall, this role presents an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking and supportive team, offering both professional progression and a high quality of life in a desirable location.
