My client in Chelmsford is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Veterinary Nurse to lead its nursing team within a well-established small animal practice. The practice is equipped with excellent facilities, including an in-house laboratory, diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, and modern surgical equipment, enabling the team to deliver high-quality care to cats, dogs, and small mammals. Services range from routine health checks and nurse-led clinics to more advanced surgical and diagnostic procedures.
In this leadership role, the Head Veterinary Nurse takes responsibility for overseeing the clinical standards and day-to-day performance of the nursing team. The position involves ensuring exceptional care is consistently delivered to patients and clients while maintaining high levels of regulatory and operational compliance. Alongside leadership duties, the role remains hands-on, with involvement in nurse consultations and support for the veterinary team during procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with the wider practice team, contributing to the smooth running of daily operations while also mentoring and developing colleagues. This includes supporting a student veterinary nurse and fostering a positive, collaborative environment where learning and professional growth are encouraged. The team is led by a partner and Veterinary Surgeon and includes experienced nurses and dedicated support staff, all committed to providing the highest standard of care.
This includes participation in a one-in-six weekend rota at the sister 24-hour hospital close by
This opportunity is well suited to an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse who is ready to step into a leadership position while maintaining clinical involvement.
