Veterinary Surgeon – 6-Month Fixed-Term Contract (Potential Extension)
An exciting opportunity is available for a Veterinary Surgeon to join a team in St Albans on a six-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension for the right candidate. This position is particularly well suited to Veterinary Surgeons seeking the variety of locum work alongside the reassurance and continuity of a stable role within a single practice environment.
Situated on a busy high street in the heart of St Albans, the practice is long-established and benefits from a loyal client base and strong ties to the local community. The successful candidate will take on a sole charge position, inheriting an existing caseload and the opportunity to make an immediate impact while delivering continuity of care and building lasting client relationships.
This role offers a varied caseload, providing exposure to both medical and surgical cases, while also giving the autonomy that comes with sole charge responsibility. At the same time, support remains readily available, ensuring access to clinical guidance and collaboration when needed.
St Albans provides an attractive setting to work and live, combining historic character with a vibrant town centre and excellent transport connections. The location offers the convenience of city access while maintaining a strong community feel.
The position is based on a 40-hour working week, although part-time applications will also be considered. Weekend commitments include either one in six weekends or participation in a shared one-in-three Saturday rota, helping to maintain a balanced working pattern.
Beyond the role itself, they offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support both professional development and personal wellbeing. Employees benefit from private medical insurance and a health cash plan, alongside access to 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support. Life assurance at three times salary is also included.
Annual leave begins at five weeks plus bank holidays and increases with length of service. Professional development is strongly encouraged, with a £1,500 CPD allowance and three days of paid CPD leave annually. Veterinary Surgeons also gain access to Clinical Communities, internal CPD opportunities, including 24-hour facilities close by. Funded certificates and clearly defined career progression pathways are available to support long-term career ambitions.
Additional support includes paid RCVS, VDS, and BVA memberships, with relocation assistance and visa sponsorship available where required.
