Just 10 minutes from Liverpool city centre, this is a busy practice with a great mix of clients. You will join a friendly team of 4 Veterinary Surgeons, and a great support team
The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced vet with strong communication and interpersonal skills. You will be passionate, confident and have a genuine interest in animal welfare. There is no OOH but you will be required to work 1 in 4 weekends (sole charge).

The practice prides itself on providing a fantastic, friendly and forward thinking service to clients and the animals. Facilities at the practices include but are not limited to the following: modern consulting rooms, diagnostic suite, operating theatre, laboratory, prep room, kennels, cat and dog waiting areas. The practice is keen to provide a high standards of care and include microchipping, pet vaccinations, weight clinics, nurse clinics, puppy parties, vet dentist and a video consultation service. The practice has a full orthopedic surgical kit, ligasure, cautery, digital xray, ultrasound, endoscope/ rhinoscope and rigid endoscope. The practice is in the process of installing a dental x-ray (just waiting on health and safety to be signed off).
The ideal candidate will have at least two years post graduation experience and be happy with consultations and routine surgeries. You will be joining a team of 6 Vets, 5 RVN’s, 2 Student VN’s, and full additional support team. The role is full time working four days per week but there are no out of hours at the practice. Weekends are on a 1:6 rota, allowing a great work/life balance. The vet team are very experienced and include a certificate holder in ECC and other vets are awaiting exams for certificates in ECC and two in small animal medicine (these qualifications have been delayed due top covid but are still ongoing). With this in mind the client is open to hear from candidates who are looking for a supportive practice, where they can persue their interest and passions and where CPD and certificates are supported and funded. The vets have quite varied interests with most liking to do a bit of everything. The team do complete fairly complex surgeries and medicine workups. There would be an opportunity for a surgical vet or someone with an interest in orthopaedics although this is not essential.
The vet rota is a 4-day week with a rotating weekend rota (currently 1:5). The weekend rota is Saturday 9-12 and Sunday 9.30-11 but there no out of hours with this role. Holiday allowance is 5-weeks prorated plus birthday and bank holidays off. The practice also operates a time off in lieu system trial for vets since January which seems to be working well and is likely to stay in place to ensure that any overtime is recognised. The practice currently work a mix of surgical and consultation shifts each week.
The practice is passionate about supporting and encouraging professional development. They have associates throughout the team that are responsible for specific areas in practice (e.g. dental champions, mental health, health and safety, infection control etc). They complete bi-annual individual professional development meetings and create development plans for associates.
They are also passionate about ensuring we are striving for gold standard patient care. The practice also have monthly team meetings and morbidity and mortality meetings. They encourage the use of Vetsafe and use the data to evaluate our practice and make necessary changes.
The team is incredible, everyone is really friendly and ready to help each other. There is no tension within the team and they are all good friends outside of work too. In normal times they would have meals/ evenings out. The team have a group book club (currently run on zoom!), In the past they have organised 'retreats' where they go away to a cottage for a weekend for a break, they go for walks and one of our vets is responsible for their wellbeing diary where exercise classes, yoga, art etc is put in the diary and anyone can join in.

They are ideally keen to recruit vets with 2 years plus experience, (from a starting salary of 45k for 2 years) THEY ALSO WILL OFFER A GOLDEN HANDSHAKE OF 4K
The main site has great facilities, sperate wards and waiting areas, cutting edge intensive care facilities including patient CCTV. They are equipped with a full imaging suite, lab and of course Digital X-Ray and ultrasound and various scopes. They have a medicine certificate holder and also possess a wide range of surgical kit so they can keep as many cases as possible in house.
They have three other sites in the area and the team of 6 Vets work closely with the nurse team, of which there is a heavy ratio of nurse to vets, so there is always plenty of nurse support.
A full time position, is based on working a 4 day week with 1:4 weekends ( part days in practice, but with the phones cover till 5.30 on Saturday and a 2pm finish on a Sunday) but no OOH, but the practice are flexible to discuss working hours depending on your requirements. They are also able to discuss roles working in the hospital or majority running a smaller branch depending on your needs, but you would be required to work across 2 of the 4 branches. and should be happy to work autonomously.
